"THE CREW WAS ALWAYS ON TIME. IF I HAD ANY QUESTIONS THEY WERE ANSWERED TO MY UNDERSTANDING. HAD ONE THING THAT WENT WRONG AND ALEX WAS THERE THE SAME NIGHT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. VERY DEPENDABLE . I WAS HOME ONE DAY WHEN THEY WERE WORKING AND THEY WERE PLAYING CHRISTIAN MUSIC WHICH I WAS SURPRISED AND VERY GLAD TO HEAR. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOUNDATION WORK AND FEEL THE PRICE I WAS CHARGED WAS A FAIR PRICE."

"Owner is very qualified (professional engineer) and has a lot of experience with concrete. He provided a well understood work plan, drawing and professional contract. None of his business qualifications are hidden. His team works well together and with a great deal of expertise and care. I am most satisfied with the end result. At my request, he also provided suggestions for improving our concrete entry steps and worked the added tasking into the existing schedule. This company is highly recommended."

"Very professional! The two people that did the concrete raising were very helpful. Big shout out to Brian and Austin out of the Bristow location. Pricy, but foundation work is sometimes unavoidable."

"Good people to work with, professional in every way. Normally when we received 2" of rain water would start entering the basement. When we receive 3" the basement floor would be covered. Two days after installing their system our area received 8.5" of rain and our basement remained dry, not a drop got in the house. These guys know what they are doing."

"The masonry work was outstanding. However, the sand was incorrectly applied at the end of the project. My husband contacted Mr. Hilliard twice, and his calls were not returned. I now must pay to have the sand removed and re-applied. If Mr. Hilliard had returned our calls and came back to fix the pavers, I would have rated him a *five*."

"Valle concrete contractors finished my project on time and on budget. After many failed attempts with other contractors, these guys were up to the task of building out a concrete pad and pavilion. Our family is very happy with the end results and their communication throughout the build. Will be keeping these guys in mind for future projects!"

"I called Waterproofing Inc on a Wednesday and we scheduled an appointment for an estimate for Saturday. Steve promptly came at the scheduled time and we reviewed the situation in my basement.   I told him of my goal to have a finished DRY basement.  He looked at my existing pump and drain. He suggested that I could apply (or have applied) plastic sheeting to the walls to help with the seepage problem. However, he doesn't do that type of work. He also asked me what I thought the problem was with the moisture problem. He suggested that he could extend the current waterproofing system along the entire back wall and gave me a written estimate for that work. The reason that I rated him a B and said I would hire him was because I didn't feel confident in his diagnosis of the root cause of the water problem and his proposed solution to address the issue so that my basement could be dry. I am looking for a one stop shop with a solution driven individual who comes in as a problem solver. I just didn't get that from Steve. He didn't even look (or ask to look) outside the house to see how the water comes off the back of the house where the problem is.  I'm guess if I just wanted someone to drill up the concrete and put a drain in, he would be fine because his price was reasonable for that work. But I'm looking for a holistic solution provider who will address all issues with the most effective and efficient techniques to keep my basement dry.  I just wouldn't hire him for that role."

FAQs for concrete work projects in Stephens City, VA

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.

Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.

Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.

An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
