"Stuart and Wellmade concrete really came through. They were very punctual and did exactly what they said they would. Very professional with a contract and stayed right on schedule. The slopes of the slab were perfect. The smooth finish I asked for was beautiful! They left the yard clean like they found it. I definitely recommend them. It was a turnkey operation! They did it all."

"I interviewed 3 companies to do my outdoor patio and fire pit. Derek Brasington with Capital City Patios was the only guy that brought pictures of his prior work and also had the creative vision to conceptualize our thoughts and give us the feedback we needed to get our project done perfectly. He also kept us from making design decisions we would have regretted later. His quote was spot on with one other and well below the third quote. But this wasnâ t a case of â you get what you paid for.â We got far more in quality and appearance that we could have hoped for. He also took care to do the best he could to protect the rest of our yard as they brought in all the equipment and stone pavers. They didnâ t mind that we checked on them and Derek answered all our questions throughout the project. There is no other company I would hire for custom stone patios or driveways."

"I highly recommend Venture Concrete. From the initial interview with Isaiah, to completion, they were professional, knowledgeable, efficient and dedicated to providing quality work. If any finish work was not up to my standards or their standards, they fixed it immediately. What's more, they were easy to pick as their price was fair. Even better, they communicated with me from initial expectations to day to day rain delays, etc. Do not hesitate, hire Venture Concrete for your driveway!"

"Scott & his crew have taken care of all my lawn maintenance needs for the past 5 years. Their work includes mowing, weeding, edging, blowing, inspection & treatment of shrubbery for any infestation or need of fertilization. My front lawn is on a hill & they are always very careful not to rut the grass with a heavy mower or with their truck when using the driveway. They do an excellent job & are conscientious, courteous & friendly. Scott always responds to my calls in a timely manner & is a pleasure to work with."

"I hired Peace Construction to pour the foundation for my new driveway. The guys with Peace Construction were highly dependable, provided quality work and the price was unbeatable. The owner was very knowledgeable and kept me informed every step of the way. My neighbor admired the work and inquired about this company’s contact information. I would definitely hire them again!"

FAQs for concrete work projects in West Columbia, SC

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.

Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.

Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.

An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
