"

All went well.  Mike arrived on time and began in the fireplace.  He cleaned the firebox, and connected a vacuum to the chimney to remove the soot from the interior.  He prepared the space well, securing the vacuum and using a drop cloth on the hearth and nearby carpet.  No dust or debris was left and we didn't need to move any furniture.  Mike also inspected the exterior of the chimney, from the ground and from the roof.  He took photos of some damage to the cap and of moss that cant be seen from the ground. He recommended areas that may need attention, and suggested things to better maintain our fireplace and get more years out of it.

We will definitely call them again for any chimney work.

"Family Chimney Repair did an amazing job on rebuilding our firebox! We had another company drop the ball on this project and FCR was over within a few days of me inquiring about them fixing it. They did a quality work, we’re great communicators, and finished way faster than I anticipated! I would highly recommend using them. Before and after photos (previous hired company’s work vs FCR)"

"I hired First Rate to clean my wood stove piping that exits up a 30' chimney. Jesse really went above and beyond. He's the opposite of pushy, if anything he underpromises and overdelivers. He climbed up on to my treacherous roof and gave me lots of great info about my chimney beyond just cleaning it. He sent me photos so I could see for myself what's going on up there (I'm not going to climb up there!) The cleaning itself was neat and thorough, no mess at all in the house. Excellent communicator, quick and efficient worker. Definitely going in my contractors-to-recommend file."

"I had been wondering what kind of shape my wood fireplaces were in and wanted to get them cleaned. Jason was very professional, personable and even arrived a few minutes early. He went over the chimneys inside & out and was very thourough explaining the inner workings. He offered suggestions on things that could be changed to become more efficient but was not trying to up sell at all. I would highly recommend Master Sweep to anyone after the great job they did at our house."

"Our wood-burning living room fireplace has been non-functional since we bought our home 10+ years ago. We had a temporary seal to keep cold air from coming in since the damper was rusted in a partially open state. We asked the Fluez brothers for help in sealing it since we do not plan to use it. They gave us an easy solution which did not involve sealing the entire chimney (we have a working fireplace downstairs that uses the same chimney, albeit separate flue). I got 3 quotes and the Fluez brothers’ quote was most thorough. Their work did not disappoint. The scheduling of the job and it’s completion were done professionally. I love the warm living room this season. During the repair they noticed one other problem and gave me the option of doing it right then for a bit more money or deferring to later. I appreciated the fact that the person on-site spent the time sending me pictures and then talking to me about why the problem needed to be addressed. That interaction was fantastic and I felt very comfortable having them address the problem at the same time. Overall, I was satisfied with all aspects of the job - their response to my request for quote, their follow up, the execution of the job, and their stellar communication to me through it all! Thanks Fluez brothers!"

FAQs for fireplace and wood stove service projects in Government Camp, OR

Start with a professional inspection. If damage is limited to a few bricks or the crown, a targeted repair helps keep costs and disruption to a minimum. Severe leaning, widespread mortar failure, or major fire damage usually signals it’s time for a complete teardown and rebuild. Your contractor will outline both price tags, but remember that rebuilding a failing stack is often cheaper than repeated patch jobs and the water leaks or fire hazards they allow.

Cracks provide water with an easy path into the masonry, weakening the bricks and mortar and increasing the risk of collapse or fire. Gaps can also let hot gases and sparks escape into attic spaces. Call a chimney pro as soon as you see cracking so they can seal small joints or recommend a larger rebuild before minor damage turns into a costly emergency.

Smoke rolling back into the room often indicates a blocked flue, a broken damper, or a drafting issue. Have a sweep inspect the damper, flue liner, and any obstructions right away. Most fixes involve clearing debris, repairing the liner, or adjusting the damper so the fireplace pulls air correctly. Don’t light another fire until a professional pinpoints the cause and confirms your system is venting safely.

Most policies cover chimney repairs caused by a sudden, covered event, such as lightning, a fallen tree, or a house fire. They won’t cover damage that stems from neglected maintenance or everyday wear. Review your policy or contact your agent before scheduling work to determine what documentation your insurer requires and what costs you will be responsible for.

Component life spans vary. Clay tile or cast-in-place liners last close to 50 years, while stainless-steel liners last 15 to 20 years. Mortar requires attention every 25 to 30 years, while crowns last 50 to 75 years. Use these numbers as a maintenance roadmap: schedule regular inspections, budget for future upgrades, and replace parts before age-related cracks develop into more significant problems.
