"I had a kitchen floor with 20 year old linoleum that had water damage on it. When the flooring was replaced after the leak, the wood subfloor beneath it was not repaired, and so it rotted away. It had become so soft I actually was able to push my finger through it at one point and make a hole through the linoleum on the floor and the wood below. I explained this to Juan who came to give me an estimate and he said it would be no problem to repair the floor. I also wanted to replace the old white linoleum with woodgrain vinyl plank flooring. He showed me some samples and we landed on one that I liked. He quoted me a very decent price for the kitchen, and later I decided to do the bathroom as well, so it would match the kitchen. The day of the installation, his crew arrived within five minutes of the time quoted. They were friendly fast and knowledgeable as they replaced the rotted wood and fixed some squeaks that were in the joists. They were careful and accurate in laying the new plank flooring in both the kitchen and the bathroom. After the job was done, I looked at it and I couldn’t be happier with the result. • We had a tight schedule with a upcoming move in date. Mike Pillar came to our new home, and got back to us with an estimate. We decided to accept his bid, selected one of the samples that he provided, and went to his shop to sign the contract. At that time we were told that the wood that we had selected was not in stock, and it would take six weeks to get. He suggested an alternative, that was available immediately. We were disappointed but had a time crunch, took the new sample to our home, and determined that is as an acceptable replacement, (although visibly was inferior quality 25% thinner), than our original selection. The following week, we met with the installers, and proceeded to leave them to work, when the foreman came running after me, and wanted to show me that the wood that they were installing, did not match the sample, that was still in my house. It was clearly a different dye lot. I was very upset and got in touch with Mike Pillar. He insisted that it was the same, even though myself, my husband, and his employee clearly saw a difference. I was thrilled to find out that the original wood that we had selected suddenly was available, however, we were now being charged an extra $680 to get the floor that we were originally quoted on. The explanation that we were given for the price increase was that the stairs cost more with that wood, even though that flooring isn't even on the stairs. The stairs are stained wood. In the end the quality of the work, and the overall pricing was good. I didn't appreciate the bait and switch tactics, the unreasonable price increase, or the way that I was spoken to by the owner.

"I can’t recommend Royal Oak Flooring highly enough. My wife and I met Laurie at her shop on Ventura Blvd. (suggest you make an appointment to ensure finding her there) in order to figure out whether Royal Oak could accommodate what we were trying to do. Previously we’d talked with 2 big-box stores and 2 small flooring shops but they all seemed to be trying to sell us very basic (but cheaper) installations. We wanted a floor with a thin black strip about 5” in from the wall to serve as a border. We also wanted mitered 45-degree corners rather than butted. The Royal Oak store is not large, compared to, say, Floors & Decor, but it has an overwhelming variety of samples. And Laurie is the kind of person who will make a phone call on the spot to find out if what you want is possible. She gave us several 2”x2” samples to take home and emailed us quotes for the different flooring and installations we were considering. After a few days we settled on a floor with 5” wide maple planks and the black border. We appreciated Laurie’s willingness to listen to what we wanted rather than try to sell us what she’d already done 1000 times. We realized why Laurie had the confidence to consider alternatives to the basic installation after Rafael and Abel showed up. These guys were the craftsmen we were beginning to think existed only on some other continent, the craftsmen who’d have to be flown over to the U.S. and put up in a motel while they worked on our mitered corners and our black border 5” from the wall. My wife and I are both retired engineers, so (1) we’re detail-oriented, and (2) we got a lot of time on our hands. I can be a pain in the butt, for sure, but Rafael and Abel never shied away from questions. And they asked them too. At one point I asked Rafael if there was a saying in Spanish equivalent to “The Devil is in the details.” Smiling, he assured me there was. Quite honestly, it got so that just seeing these guys in the morning was reassuring. They cleaned up everyday before leaving, made Herculean attempts to keep dust from escaping, and in general tried to reduce their impact on the normal house functioning as much as possible. We’re very happy with the new hardwood floor we got thanks to Royal Oak Flooring."

"Mike Harris and his team did an amazing job on my floors! My husband and I recently purchased a home built in 1956 and the hardwood floors were covered up with carpet. Not only did Mike take the time to help us figure out how to DIY a few things ourselves but he was knowledgeable and knew exactly how to continue to take care of our floors. I was very impressed that he even knew about the termite chemicals that would be bad for the new floors he installed. He was there everyday with his crew and I liked that he was present. "I found out the day before new carpet was to be installed that the vendor would not nail/screw down squeaky floorboards.  I called several handymen, and Byron was the only one available to come by that same day.  When he arrived, he tried to dissuade me from installing carpet over what he presumed to be hardwood floors, even though I told him that carpet was being installed the next day.  (It ended up being a non-issue, since we soon found out that we didn't have hardwood floors.)  He explained that he couldn't nail down the plywood planks and would instead have to screw them down to secure them for the long-term.  That tripled the price he quoted over the phone.  After several minutes of negotiating, we agreed upon a price for the floorboard work as well as odds and ends (fixing a running toilet, hanging some shelves, changing an air filter, reattaching a light fixture).  He was friendly and very talkative; I would have been frustrated if I were paying by the hour, but he bid for the job, so I didn't mind.  He was very helpful and thought through the consequences of certain actions before beginning his work.  When asked to take a look at a sprinkler head that wasn't working, he said that he doesn't do that type of work.  Also, he did a short-term fix for our running toilet, but it didn't fix the problem.  (He didn't bid to do any major plumbing help.)  Overall, I was very happy.
