"Jonathan is still working on projects at my home, but the completed part is the excellent work that Jonathan did by digging up the large bushes in the front and transplanting them to the back and giving me grass in the front yard. He is building me an extensive patio, a kitchen, walls, and walkways. I have renovated many homes and De La Rosa is my FAVORITE sub. Jonathan has qualities that ensure you will not be miserable, stressed and panicky: he is COMMUNATIVE, CALM, EXTREMELY CAPABLE, REASONABLE, and HONEST.He knows his stuff! I am a very experienced gardener and I never have to explain to him how to properly do something. His paver and stone work is beyond compare. Don't waste your time with another company"

My name is Shane Nelson I am the owner of DISCOUNT RENOVATIONS. We have been in business for 16 Years and we pretty much can do it all. The only service we do not provide is carpet. We specialize in bathroom and kitchen remodels. We are very well trained with plumbing, tile, electrical, drywall, painting, carpentry, roofing, and I could keep going. So instead of calling 5 different contractors for one job we can handle it all. Thanks for your time and consideration. Feel free to call 336-655-8402 anytime for questions or appointments. My workmanship speaks for itself. If you want quality work at a fair price then I'm your guy. I am not the cheapest person out there and for good reason. I stay busy so if you are needing work done immediately I'm probably not going to be that guy. I will try my best to accommodate your situation, and can typically schedule site visits within a few weeks. I work long hours to try and get the job done in a timely manner. Thanks for your time and consideration. Please text me or call at 336 655 8402. I will see a text message and respond to it the fastest for I work all day until about 7 or 8 so I do not answer the phone unless needed while putting 100% focus on each job.

"I found Shane Nelson on Angi's List. I contacted him about doing an addition onto a mobile home. On Monday January 6 He brought his tool trailer. On Tuesday January 7, after dark, he brought a small load of lumbar and a machine. I paid him $15,000.00 on January 7. After I paid him, I asked him if he was licensed to work in Virginia and he said no. I asked him if he would be able to get a permit and do the job and he told me it shouldn't be a problem. On Wednesday January 8, I called the building office of Virginia, they told me an unlicensed contractor would not be able to get a building permit. I tried to call and text him several times. On Wednesday afternoon I finally talked to him and asked him if I could just pay him a little amount of money for his time and trouble. I told him to not do anything else concerning the job until I decided what we were going to do about the building permits. I told him I would let him know Thursday morning what I wanted to do. I tried calling him 8:30 am and called several times and also send text messages. He texted me late Thursday evening he text and told me he was coming and bringing material. I texted him and asked him what about the permits. I told him we needed to talk about what is going on. I tried calling him several times and he called me back and told me he had talked to the permit office. He said the permit office told him that I could get the permit in my name and tell the permit office that I was having a family member to do the addition and that I was not going to pay the family member any money. I told him that I did not want the responsibility of the permits or the job and that is why I had hired him. He told me to not worry about permits and that I was overreacting. He said no one would know anything about it. My husband passed away in August from Cancer and Shane told me that if anything came up with it that I could say my husband did the work before he passed away. I told him I was not telling a lie about my dead husband. I asked Shane if I could just pay him $5000.00 for his troubles and if he would give me $10,000.00 back and we could call the job off. He told me that he did not have any of my money left. He said he spent it all on material from a scrap yard that had a no return policy. Then he said it was my fault that I called the job off and he had put off work to do my job for next to nothing. \ He estimated the job at $43,000.00 and that was with him just doing outside of the addition and that price was with me doing the inside work. I told him that my husband sold his car and truck before he passed with cancer so I could have some money and that's the money I gave Shane. I begged him for 10,000.00 back and that I would give him 5,000.00. I told him that I was a sick widow woman with a heart condition, and I begged him to give my money back. He said that money was his for his work and material. I asked him why did you buy material after I told you that I wasn't going to do the job without permits. I have all text messages and pictures of the materials that he brought. I still have not received any money back from him."

Flooring and carpeting services FAQs

You should replace your subfloor if you notice persistent floor squeaks, significant dips or weak areas, warped or cupped floorboards, cracked tiles, musty odors, or unstable fixtures like cabinets becoming loose. These signs suggest that your subfloor's structural integrity is compromised, and prompt replacement is necessary to ensure your home's safety.

You can install a new subfloor over an existing one only if the current subfloor is flawless and structurally sound. If there's any damage or instability, it's best to remove the old subfloor to ensure a secure and durable installation. This approach prevents future structural issues and guarantees a lasting finished surface.

Your subfloor is supported from below by sturdy joists and completed from above with an underlayment and finished flooring. The joists form a robust framework while the underlayment creates a smooth base for the visible floor covering. This layered construction guarantees maximum stability and durability, ensuring that every component contributes effectively to the overall performance of your floor.

Consider repairing your subfloor if the damage is minor and the overall structure is sound. However, if you're facing widespread decay, extensive water damage, persistent sagging, or significant rot, it's essential to replace the subfloor entirely to maintain safety and structural support. While minor repairs cost less than replacing your subfloor, substantial damage requires a full replacement for lasting results.

A flooring professional can replace only the damaged section of your subfloor when the remainder of the structure is still solid. They remove the compromised portion with precise cutting tools and install an exact match to restore integrity. This section-by-section replacement conserves resources, minimizes disruption, and maintains the overall strength of your flooring while ensuring that any necessary reinforcement is completed when needed.
