"Juan from Elite Garage came out promptly on the time he said he would, to check out my garage door workings. He first started with the remotes which I felt were not properly syncing with the motor. He really tried to repair them, but, as I suspected, they were shot. Only 20 years old! (joke, that's long enough.) So within two hours, I had a new replacement that's FAR more silent than the old one, and two new fully synced remotes. Also, debris from the install was removed, and I'm delighted. Juan was professional, obviously quite experienced in this drill, and I recommend him and Elite Garage to everyone."

"Trying to clean up after an electrical surge a couple of days ago. Mike worked on my garage door opener. He found both the safety sensors and the drive motor fried. Also increased the spring tension to take some load off the motor. The system running fine at this point although it is too early to declare victory. Would hire him again."

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.
Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.
A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.
Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.
A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.
Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.
If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
