"The whole process was seamless. I requested a quote from them via the Clopay garage door website. They responded within a day with a preliminary estimate (garage door only). Within a few days, they had sent someone to scope out the framing work that needed to be done and provide an updated estimate. On they day of the installation, they arrived on time and got straight to work. On the same day, I was having some tree trimming work done - the tree trimmers needed to get their truck close to the garage, and the Johnson guys worked with them to make sure everybody had space to do what they needed to do. When the work was done, they cleaned everything up well, and provided me with the keys to my new garage door."

"Brandon was fantastic and I would highly recommend new look garage doors for your garage door needs. My spring broke unexpectedly, leaving my car stuck in the garage. Brandon was able to get my door open manually so i could get my car out, while he went to get the new parts for the repair. 5 stars"

"My garage door was badly buckled and stuck halfway up/down. I contacted several contractors on a Friday and chose Maryland's Choice based on their price and their ability to do the job the next day. They arrived as promised and we had a new garage door by noon Saturday. The new door looks great and works perfectly."

"They came out the next day per request. He was timely honest and fair to fix the problem. I just wish that this company did more than just garages. Things I would recommend them if you need a honest company for your garage door repair"

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.
Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.
A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.
Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.
A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.
Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.
If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
