"I chose to have Mike install a new garage door opener once he had explained all the options and answered my many questions. Mike quickly and efficiently changed out my old unit and set up the remotes and keypad. In addition, Mike cleaned up all the old and new material, leaving no debris from the install. I appreciate that as his own boss, Mike is adamant about giving the customer the best possible service. Highly recommend Mascolo Overhead Doors."

"Amazing service from Thomas Sackman and colleague. Faced a garage door with fraying cables, noisy pulleys, grinding Sheetrock, motor and frame pulling away from ceiling - left with a silent, solid, safe garage door with new keypads, remotes, sensors, cables, track wheels….super solid"

"Our garage door was jamming when the automatic opener was trying to raise it. They came in, diagnosed the problem as worn rollers, replaced them and the door opener has worked well ever since. It is also quieter raising/lowering the door. I cannot speak to price because I did not get any competitive bids."

"Our garage doors are a perfect match to our new front door. I'm so glad Dan convinced us to go with the windows in the doors. It not only adds curb appeal but the natural light inside the garage is an absolute bonus. I'll use this company again."

FAQs for garage and garage door service projects in Sandy Hook, CT

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.

Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.

A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.

Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.

A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.

Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.

If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
