"I was absolutely thrilled with the responsiveness and diligence with which my garage door repair was completed. I had the pleasure of dealing directly with the owner who was courteous, knowledgeable, proficient, neat, expedient and very fair with his prices. I own a fair amount of real estate and use Overheadz Garage Doors for all of my garage door (repair, replacement garage door openers) needs. I would not call anyone else. Great company with a terrific owner / operator."

"My husband and I decided to convert our garage door into an automatic door. I found this company on Home Advisor and spoke to Ashanti. Her and Russell were both very nice, they arrived to my home on time and they were professional. While Russell was installing the garage door motor, Ashanti showed me some new garage door options and I decided to order one. The motor was just installed on 4/2/21 and so far so good. I even reached out afterwards for help setting up the MyQ app and Russell walked me through it. Iâ m excited about the new garage door weâ ll be getting in a few weeks (itâ s an all Black Country style door) and they assured me that transferring the motor to the new door wouldnâ t be a problem so thatâ s great. I was pleased with their service and I loved that theyâ re not only a family business but also a black owned business. Iâ ll do an update to this review once our new garage door is installed."

"We would first like to say that Ken responded to our request for service very quickly. He then attempted first to fix the garage door opener. Once he knew that was not possible he installed a new one that we had purchased. He communicated with us every step of the way. We found him both courteous and professional."

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.
Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.
A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.
Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.
A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.
Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.
If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
