"New garage door & opener installed yesterday by Academy, I am totally satisfied with both the quality products and service rendered. Cindy from the office was very friendly and most helpful getting the install finally scheduled. The 2-man install team led by Douglas was excellent, they were courteous and meticulous professionals that take pride in their work. I highly recommend choosing Academy if you demand excellence at a fair price."

"This was a professional, he knew everything about garages and knew how to fix them. He fix mine in about 1 hours, it was a broken spring and something I would never do or recommend anyone do on their own. You have to have special tools and he did, you have to have experience and he had it. After he was done he advice me on how to take care of my garage, and recommended future projects (which I ask him for) on my garage. I recommend him totally and I believe in his work. He was the first one to contact me as soon as I requested quotes, and I am happy I got him to do the job."

"From the beginning, I knew that Justin LeBlanc was knowledgeable and professional. He set up a time for an estimate at a time when I could be there, and he was neatly dressed and ready to take notes. After a good walk-through of the situation, he said he would get back to me in a day or two with an estimate based on the laundry list we had agreed on. He did, and I have to say that the estimate was reasonable and competitive. What impressed me was his professionalism, willingness to listen, and ability to respond to questions in a way that showed me he had been in the business a while and knew what he was doing (he eventually told me he had worked for his father's company for a number of years). I sent in my 50% deposit and got on the calendar to start work.
After one schedule delay day and one rain day, he and a teammate showed up bright and early and got right to work. They were neat and careful, and they didn't mind me asking questions along the way. They replaced all the wood trim around the windows, up the corners, and at the top of the front of the house, and their painter had all that painted by Day 2. However, also on Day 2 they discovered while taking trim down around the garage entrance that a load-bearing beam had sustained a good amount of termite damage. This required another estimate for a separate task (replacing that beam and rebuilding the entrance to the garage) that took place a week later when it fit into his schedule, but one that came with improvements to the garage entrance that oddly, the builder and/or previous owners didn't include (like insulation in the front-facing wall on either side of the garage entrance, and stripping around the garage door that keeps air from leaking through). He even installed a new outside light by the garage for me. He would have put the old one back up, but we agreed the one I picked out was much nicer. And it is!
When unexpected things like termite damage pop up, it's easy to understand how schedules can slip a day. It was nothing in my book compared to the expertly skilled service, communication, and humor Justin and his team brought to the job. I believe the worth of the improvement in my home's structure and appearance is greater than what I spent, and I have found a contractor I WILL bring back to my home for other projects. I've given his cards to a handful of people already, and a few neighbors have come by to comment on the work as well.
On a side note, as he was preparing the estimate for the unexpected garage work, Justin let me know that he finally got one of those credit card swipers for his smart phone. That was a relief to hear, as I was not financially prepared for that surprise. He swiped the card, I signed the screen, and a receipt showed up in my email inbox. Nice!
Thanks, guys! I hope to see you again soon for the next tasks on my list!

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.
Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.
A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.
Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.
A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.
Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.
If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
