"Short answer is that it went very well and I'm glad I worked with this contractor and recommend them. I received estimates from 3 companies, 2 of which were larger outfits than E R Roofing. With E R Roofing I dealt directly with the owner who was also involved in the work. There is a different feeling in dealing with larger companies including slicker marketing materials, but I concluded that there would be no difference in the final result, only in the price - which was substantial. Now that the work is complete, I still feel that way. All proposals included drip guard along all roof edges and special ice and water protection material (against ice dams) along the roof edges where there are gutters. The only difference in material that I noted in the quotes was between the use of 30# felt paper underlayment vs a synthetic product. I could have insisted on making this substitution but I've seen felt's endurance.
As an example on price differential, I asked using a different, more costly shingle. Since the material itself essentially would be the only change in underlying cost, I was able to compare companies with the change in materials and see what struck me as an extreme mark-up on materials. This exercise convinced me that the outcome would be the same with E R Roofing, only that I would pay less than I would with the larger firms. 
The materials were delivered onto the roof the day before the job, and on job day the crew showed up on time and the work went smoothly. The team hustled and the work was done in a single day. Only one of the roof's plywood sheets had to be replaced, but there was a lot of work devoted to completely reflashing old, custom skylights. Site clean up was thorough. All-in-all I was pleased with the experience and recommend E R Roofing.

"I had gutter helmet installed 20 years ago and it has been a lifesaver - no gutter cleaning! My house backs up to woods, so lots of tall trees, leaves and pollen. With gutters at 2 and 3 stories, cleaning was necessary, but expensive before Gutter Helmet installation. Today, I had a section of helmet repaired due to damage from a fallen limb. "Complete Exteriors recently replaced the shingles on my townhouse in Gaithersburg, MD. I also hired them to replace our gutters and downspouts. The roof shingles are CertainTeed Landmark Pro architectural shingles and they look great. The Complete Exteriors crew arrived around 7 A.M. and they completed the job in less than one day (done before 3 P.M.). The crew supervisor kept me in the loop throughout the roof replacement process and frequently showed me close-up pictures of the work being done on the roof. Their price for the roofing work was excellent (I got eight bids, and their price was the best by far for the roofing job). The gutters and downspouts were replaced the next day. Complete Exteriors subcontracted this work to another vendor, which also did good work. In retrospect, I may have divided the contract into two jobs, solely because the price from Complete Exteriors was not the lowest bid I received for the gutters and downspouts. However, their overall combined price for both the roofing and the gutters and downspouts was at least $500 lower than any other bid I received. Another reason I gave them both contracts was to simplify the contracting process, as I wanted one company to be responsible for both the roofing and the gutters and downspouts. Overall, I am very satisfied with the work done by Complete Exteriors' roofing crew and by the subcontractor they hired that installed the new gutters and downspouts, and I highly recommend Complete Exteriors."
