"My 36-year-old heating and air conditioning system, which was original to my home, had been on borrowed time for some while. I researched and got bids from four local companies. I needed a new heat pump and air handler at least, but I also wanted to replace the insulation and duct work since it too was old and I had had some rodent issues in my attic some years ago. Insulation upgrades also qualify for additional SMUD rebates. Not only was Huft's bid the lowest, but my Bosch system is more energy efficient than any of the other systems quoted me and whisper quiet. From the salesman Glenn to the installation lead Tever and the insulation installer Anthony, I was impressed with their level of punctuality, courtesy, and professionalism throughout the process. In fact, Glenn was the only salesman who actually took the time to take measurements at my house and explained the numbers of why I needed a three-ton system. I am very happy with my system thus far and I would highly recommend Huft to others!"

"We were extremely pleased with the service provided to us by Bob's Air Repair and their technician Luke T. The heating in our HVAC system was failing to launch when turned on, although it made noises of an attempt to do so. From the time we placed the service request to Luke's arrival everything was handled in a efficient & professional manner."

"Furnace wouldn't light, and no heat to half the house. Nick came out and fixed the furnace right way, even inviting me to watch while he explained what he was doing. Came back the next morning at 8 to replace all the duct work, stopping only to show me the damage done by ground squirrels building a nest inside. It was a dirty, back-breaking job crawling under the house, but he never complained, and, when he left, every bit of debris was bagged and taken away. It's not often you run across someone with a good work ethic, and Nick definitely has one. Excellent job!"

"I recently purchased a home in Red Bluff. I love the house,
but the only heating and cooling system that the home came with was a wall A/C
unit in the front room and a wall furnace in the hallway. After several
sleepless nights in my new bedroom, I quickly realized that the living room A/C
unit wasn?t going to cut it. Like a smart consumer, I got several quotes from
different businesses and it didn?t take long for me to become disheartened. My
adorable new home has no ducting and no room in the attic for a unit to be installed,
two factors that lead to frustratingly high quotes.
After basically resigning myself to summer nights spent
sleeping in the living room, I had a chance encounter that lead me to
Gallagher?s and I couldn?t be happier. I came into the meeting interested in
the mini-split system due to its easy install and maintenance, plus its
relatively cheaper price tag and much cheaper operating cost. Even knowing what
I was interested in, John took the time to explain all of my options so I could
be secure in my decision. The turning point in the meeting was certainly when
we were exploring the merits of having one or two heads installed. John,
knowing that cost was a major concern for me, actually advocated for me to get
one head to work in conjuncture with my current system since I would have the
option to add a second head later when funds allowed. I couldn?t have felt less
pressured. John clearly took my priorities seriously and it was a refreshing
experience.
Inevitably, I opted to have two heads installed and it was
the best decision I could have made. My house is always an even, comfortable
temperature and the system is virtually silent, even when set to ?high?. My
electrical/gas bill has consistently been below $60 a month and that?s without
having to sacrifice comfort on those especially hot days. I can?t express the
peace of mind that comes with not having to feel guilty about running my
system.
From beginning to end, the Gallagher?s team was
professional, courteous, and reliable. I was pleasantly surprised by the
experience, thoroughly impressed, and would absolutely recommend Gallagher?s
for any heating, air conditioning or even basic plumbing and electrical needs.
They handle it all and they handle it well!"

"Jed was in the process of writing an estimate to change out some lighting systems, and install two ceiling fans. He called and said he wasn't complete, but a very hot weekend was coming up and he would do the fans right away! That was a thoughtful idea /suggestion which we agreed to. Jed and his worker braved the extremely hot attic and installed the hardware to hang the ceiling fans, but additional wiring to power them and provided wiring, switches and two updated switch boxes to accommodate the new extra switches. This job required Jed and crew to get creative and inventive to complete this job in a timely basis. The work was very professional, an they left the jobsite clean. Naturally, I look forward to the lighing changes when time is available. We highly recommend Jed Faulkner Electric for any job that involves electrical work."

"My AC had stopped working while my family and I were out late on the 4th of July. I requested a Quote through HomeAdvisor and received a text within minutes about the trouble. He offered to come out right away! I told him I had shut off the system to prevent further damage and the next morning would be fine. He showed up timely and even had a system to alert me via text of his exact ETA, very nice. He was able to diagnose the problem and get the system running for now. He even found the cause, a leaking evaporator coil, which does mean a new system soon, mine is over 15 years old and has seen its better days. He gave me a very reasonable price quote, and made sure the system was running before he left. He also thoroughly cleaned up after himself and you would never know anyone was there. His pricing is very reasonable and he explained what he was doing as he went and why. Very knowledgeable and personable. I have owned many rental properties and would trust Brian to handle any repair to any HVAC system! Thank you Brian"

"Excellent service, very fast response to my request for service, picked up laptop, diagnosed issues. Initially thought it was an OS update issue but the hard drive had failed along with other components (including 'CPU). Because other components were involved, a new solid state hard drive was put into a laptop with a working processor - same type CPU as in the failed unit. The laptop was repaired and returned in less than a week. This company picked up and dropped off the laptop (driving from Huntsville, AL (about 60-70 minutes)-- great service in this covid environment. I would recommend this company to my family./friends and will use again."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Chico, CA

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
