"This company was excellent all the way around. The staff member who contacted me was very nice and helpful. They were able to come out the same day (I did not have heat). They sent me a text message with a picture of the technician which I thought was an excellent feature. The technician, Jeff, was very nice and extremely knowledgeable. I would definitely hire them again because the work was top quality and the cost was fair and reasonable."

"Robert did a great job in checking out my furnace that wasn't operating and provided me with the next steps I needed to take with the gas company. I can't say enough good things about Robert. He was so extremely helpful and informative. I'm a delighted customer and am glad I have Dunn for my heating and cooling needs."

"We found SmartHouse almost by accident while looking for solutions to what turned out to be botched previous AC installation by a much bigger and more established company who we had trusted to do a decent job. Instead we ended up with a system that wouldn't cool the house. Smarthouse first correctly diagnosed the problem, then fixed it, and advised us on how best to heat and cool our 100+ old house. We now have a service contract with them for regular maintenance and they recently installed a mini-split for us. Their techs are great. Just the sort of people we would feel comfortable leaving alone in the house to finish a job if necessary."

"Had new hvac, furnace, and hwh installed. Furnace had a couple of air leaks between a coil and furnace which I fixed myself. Hvac was spot on. Hwh failed first inspection, but was corrected in same day. For the premium price paid, these issues should not happen. Quality 4.5 because of these issues, same goes for value. Customer service is very good. They are very professional, work looks very good, clean worksite afterwards. I would recommend, but don't think about negotiating price with them. Their labor is very high."

"After telling their phone person the make, model, the fact that it had a large compressor on the top unit; and that my husband had run diagnostics, I worked from home to wait for the repair person. He arrived - and before I could tell him what was wrong, he said he couldn't work on it, they sent the wrong guy out. That he didn't work on built-ins. So he arranged the guy that *does* work on built-ins to come out the next day. The "built-in" repair person came the next day, only to tell me *he* couldn't work on it because my husband had vacuumed and recharged the system. He was very apologetic and nice, didn't charge for a service visit, and recommended another company. If they had a competent phone person that had at the minimum wrote down the information I had given, and relayed that to the repairmen, I would have saved myself two days of my time and could have gotten my repair done more quickly."

"John contacted me immediately after I submitted my project to Angi and came out later that same day to do an AC tune-up. He was professional, easy to work with, and respectful of the property. He diagnosed a few issues and possible solutions at varying price points, and went into the pros/cons of each one. I plan on having him come back this fall to check our furnaces."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Earth City, MO

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
