"Your Community Heating and Cooling handled our repair. Rakim, the company owner came out the same day, spent some time to thoroughly examine our heat pump. The compressor was not working. He attempted to perform maintenance on the compressor to "buy us some extra time" with the unit but was unable to make it work. Rakim offered two solutions, and recommended what he thought was the best plan of action. We agreed and chose to replace the heat pump. The diagnosis visit was timely and inexpensive ($80) for the level of professionalism we received. Rakim came out the next day, and replaced our unit (a York) with a higher quality Rheem. The work took approximately 2 hours (maybe less) and within a few hours, the temperature in our house decreased from 87 degrees to 75, and when we woke the next morning the house temp was 70 degrees. By the way, both visits occurred between 7 and 9 PM. Rakim recognized our need, and gave selflessly of his time and experience providing us with excellent service. I would recommend that you choose Your Community Heating and Cooling for your needs as well. Both visits were $2330.00. Extremely pleased with all facets."

"The tech arrived early and diagnosed the problem quickly, a bad heating element. We confirmed the repair cost, he left and obtained the new part and returned quickly. He completed the repair and cleaned up. He was friendly and courteous and we are satisfied with the work performed. I would hire him again and would recommend him to others."

"I needed my 26 year old Rheem HVAC unit & ducting replaced for the downstairs unit of my house. I had multiple contractors come out and bid the job. Wes Taylor came out and provided an estimate next day after my call. He did a thorough inspection of the system and showed me that the heat exchanger on my furnace had significant cracks, warning me of the potential CO hazard. He was the only contractor to catch this. Wes then ran through the calculations and came up with the best price for a new replacement unit. He was also able to get the work scheduled the same week and took care of removing an old humidifier on my upstairs unit at no extra charge. The technician's Derek & Mosess were on time, courteous, properly Covid protected, and knocked the work out quickly. They also handled an unexpected mold abatement issue that was discovered at the time of the install and added UV lights to both systems. I'm amazed at what a difference there now is in the air quality inside my home. I can't recommend these guys enough!"

"Everything looks great and feels great! I really appreciate the small things you did like fixing the vent in the kitchen, putting the sliding door back on its hinges and getting the bleach stain off the floor next to the laundry machines. Thankful I hired them!"

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Goochland, VA

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
