"Great work! Keaton was able to diagnose and estimate a fix for my furnace. Came out the next day to replace a part and do some regular maintenance on the furnace and air conditioner. Very happy with the work."

"Six years ago, a few days before Thanksgiving, my furnace died. Oregon Heating juggled existing appointments in order to find time to install a new one so I wouldn't have to be without heat during the cold winter days. They cleaned the house air ducts at the same time. All was done quickly, courteously, and professionally. I've continued to Oregon Heating for yearly furnace checkups, and their technician, Dave, is a delight: polite, personable, and patiently thorough in answering all my questions. I'm completely satisfied with this furnace. Thank you for your terrific product and staff!"

"Dave from Columbia came to my place in Portland from Scappoose on a same-day appt, for what I thought was a dead furnace. (I had tons of smoke flow into the home after furnace turned on.) Rather than just presuming the furnace was dead or even the problem, Dave poked around. He discovered the smoke was from the fireplace/chimey and the furnace turning on had pulled air from the chimney, reignited a smoldering log, and then filled the house with smoke. The problem was with the chimney all along, but Dave/Columbia did not charge me anything for the trip to Portland---or for diagnosing the problem---even when I called later to offer. Great service, great customer relations, great knowledge of how air moves through homes."

"We had an issue with our furnace and were recommended Chase with Elevate Heating & Cooling. We called their office and had an appointment scheduled shortly thereafter. Chase diagnosed and fixed the problem in no time. Chase was upfront with all communication and pricing and truly explained what the issue was and what was required to fix it. The professionalism and quality of service was amazing. I will be recommending Chase to anyone that asks and will be using him for all future needs."

"Amazing customer service! We could not be more impressed with Earthwise Heating and Cooling. Steven Matiaco, the owner, is an honest and hardworking person who really cares about his customers, and goes the extra mile to make sure that the job is done right and for a good price. We own a 4-plex in Beaverton that we discovered had problems with the heating system. We had just had a really bad experience with another contractor, and we were in a particularly tough situation, so we were very anxious. Steven worked extra hard to find creative solutions to our issues to help us save money, and was very good at communicating clearly throughout the whole project. The room our heating system was located in was not up to code, and the system had major problems with it. Steven found ways to install the new furnaces so that we could bring everything up to code, but also save money. When he found that he could actually do something for less than he had originally quoted us, he let us know and sent us a new contract with the lower price. He did not have to do that. He could have just kept the difference for himself, but Steven is not that type of person. He is honest, thorough, and hard-working. We have been so impressed with his willingness to go out of his way to help his customers, and we could not be happier with the work Earthwise has done for us. Thank you so much, Steven!"

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in North Plains, OR

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
