"What I liked: Eliseo spent time getting to know the layout of our house and goals before recommending a system. He answered all of our questions honestly and comprehensively. Their prices seemed fair compared to other estimates we received. They were kind, considerate, good humored, and worked hard the whole time they were at our house. The system works great so far. What disappointed me: the job took longer than expected, and the electrical component that was subcontracted out cost 3 times as much as we were anticipating."

"I can't begin to tell you how grateful we are to Joseph and Norse Heating and Cooling. Our AC went out during a record breaking heatwave and were told by business after business the best they could do was 3-4 weeks if we were lucky. Our house reached above 90 degrees and I was very concerned about my elderly mother that lives with us (she has multiple health concerns). I begged her to go stay with my brother so she wouldn't have to deal with the heat. I was ready to force her. Then Joseph called saying he was in the area and came over at 10:30PM and got us all fixed up. Luckily, it was an easy fix and at a very reasonable price. Only $95 for the call even though it was way after hours and the price of the part itself (only $150). My family and our rescue cats are very appreciative. We need a furnace service before this upcoming winter and will definitely schedule with them. Thank you!"

"ACS installed a new Bryant heat pump + furnace. The equipment is high quality and the team was knowledgeable, flexible, and willing to answer all my questions. They accommodated a change in scope on the day of install from just installing a heat pump to installing a furnace + heat pump combo. This set the team back a few hours for the last minute parts request, but they powered through a very long day and stayed until the job was finished. All customer service goes directly through the owner operator. Originally this seemed like a plus, but I think they would benefit from support staff. I needed to edit and downgrade this review after a few negative experiences. Some changes are related to issues noticed after the install. The unit was not secured to the pad outdoors and also was not attached to the house. Holes cut into the corner of the garage slab in order to pass through the lines were not patched, leaving a break in the envelope. Mark promised to follow up on both of these, but he did not send anyone out to take care of this. Mark also directly promised that our install would qualify for Energy Trust of Oregon incentives for $3000, when in fact it is clear after speaking directly with Energy Trust representatives that our install did not qualify for any amount of rebate. This promise was echoed throughout the quote and the install process. I believe that the lack of a support staff is causing some shortcutting or disorganization when it comes to managing some of these details - I would prefer to assume that ACS did not know the details of the incentive rather than that they purposefully deceived me, but I dont feel comfortable recommending them given these circumstances."

"In this day and age you do not find the level of care and concern that Advantage provided. The services person was responsible for coming out the day after Thanksgiving on 4 hours notice. The salesman followed him in the evening when I decided to replace my entire system. The system installers were on time, easy to work with and very competent, The techs that rerurned to clean my and inspect my existing ducts were on time and awesome young men! I highly recommend this company."

Small jobs welcome

"This was a new company in this day and age of the shortage of licensed plumbers, but we got an appointment within 4 days. Phil arrived promptly, looked over our entire system and gave very clear and honest explanations of all. He then offered 3 quotes and we chose the one we thought best, and he performed the work. We are extremely happy with the result and would recomment D & F."

"Of course, your furnace decides to not work on the weekend! Finding repair service on a Sunday? Not highly likely! We were thrilled to find Bryan, and having him come to repair our furnace today was greatly appreciated. He was knowledgeable, courteous, efficient and extremely competent. We could not have been more satisfied. This is a small family businessâ ¦..please support them!"

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Salem, OR

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
