"Our 33 year old furnace gave up right before the cold snap this past ten days. After getting competitive bids, we chose Green City because the estimator, Josh, was the most thorough in evaluating our home and explaining the pros and cons of various systems, not just launching into what he could sell me. The installation occured on time and the technicians were courteous, respectful and professional. We love our new dual heat pump/furnace, and we love Green City."

"I won't call any other heating or AC experts ever again. Twice now, I've had incomparable experiences. I had another highly reputed company come diagnose my failed furnace and provide an estimate, but AirPros' price for the same part and repair was much more reasonable and furnace repairs are not cheap, so the difference mattered significantly. AirPros also treated me like family. Go with this family business, you will be happy."

"Our Greenwood Technician, Sam, really provides us assurance that our gas furnace is still functioning adequately, but detailed why it may be time to consider replacing our aging water heater and furnace water pump system before likely damage occurs. Sam is a most genuine and reassuring professional - He helps us know just what may need maintenance and what is still sound. It is a joy to work with a trustworthy and competent professional"

Customers say: Quick response

"Bob came to check out my furnace which was not blowing heat. The last person to service it had pressured me to buy a new one so I was almost certain that Bob was going to reiterate that view. However, Bob diagnosed the problem to be a simple broken igniter and he replaced it within few minutes. He indicated that everything else was great with my furnace and I should not expect to replace it for a while longer. I had messed up the appointment so Bob go to my house and had to wait 20-minutes before I did for which I offered to pay him for the wait time, but he declined by stating that the fix had taken far less than hour so there was no need for me to pay extra. I have not felt this great about a technician. If you need someone to work on your furnace or AC, I recommend that you talk to Bob first."

"Our previous gas furnace was only 14 years old (it was a replacement itself, but a generic "contractor's model," not a common name brand and probably inefficient). The gas controller died, which would have cost $700 to replace -- and we'd still have an old, inefficient furnace. At best, the old 100,000 BTU furnace might have been 80% efficient, and probably worse.
I called around and got a quote for a replacement from a large heating company in Woodinville, and a different brand -- but they insisted that we'd have to install a vehicle post for protection of the heater in the garage, in order to pass an inspection. They also did not explain how they would install the PVC exhaust pipe in our garage. The 95% efficient furnaces require a PVC exhaust pipe, which cannot attach to the existing metal exhaust that goes through the roof and that also handles exhaust from the water heater. Another large company in Bellevue wanted to do a 3-hour test of our entire house, to first determine what size heater to get. With that, and other reviews on Angie's List, I figured they would be more expensive, so I passed on that. After a quick look at our existing system, the other heating companies I talked with said that the same BTU output of a new efficient heater, combined with a variable or two-speed fan, would be the right size.
So I called Bassett Home Heating. John, the owner, came out the next day (a Friday) and offered two recommendations -- one for an 80% furnace (which could attach to our existing metal exhaust pipe), and one for a 95%. He explained how the PVC pipe could be routed along the top of the garage, and said nothing about having to install a vehicle post. I also liked the idea of a small family-run company, where you know who you will be dealing with.
The only potential downside was a scheduling delay, since we had no working heater. Because we have a wood stove that we have previously relied on for heat during storm outages, I decided to go with Bassett -- and am very glad I did. They are normally scheduled two or three weeks ahead at this time of year, but were able to rearrange their schedule and come out for the installation the following Thursday. We got the 95% efficient furnace. The PVC exhaust pipe looks and works fine, and they also installed a small pump and outlet tubing for the moisture that the furnace creates.
They called a couple of days ahead, and showed up right at 7:30 a.m. on the agreed day. John, his son, and another helper all worked on the installation, and did a great job. Complete installation took them less than 2-½ hours, and they showed how the new thermostat works -- it's easier than the old one, even though there are more features. I am extremely pleased with our new heating system; it heats the house much more evenly than the old system, and we aren't losing 15% or more of the fuel as waste.

"It went well. They came out on a Sunday afternoon (of course it was more expensive because it was the weekend and their emergency hours). They completed the repair, and then checked over our furnace while they were there. We also signed up for a reduced rate for a yearly servicing of the furnace. We then called back and had them service our air-conditioning unit and signed up for a reduced rate for yearly servicing. Very professional."

"From start, meeting with the sales technician (Matt) who was willing to meet with us twice, never tried to "sell" us on it, to installation (we are fortunate to live 5 minutes from the office) which took Andrew and crew one day, to finish total clean up and to the tutorial making sure we received a thorough explanation of the new system, this was a breeze of a process and all the seatown staff from the techs to the office support were very professional and helpful. Now we have a new furnace, heat pump and thermostat that will work together to keep our home comfy. Plus we got a filtration system that eliminates dust in the air and other pollutants making the air in air house more healthy to breathe. Our first experience with Seatown was service of our gas fireplace. It had gone out over the summer and I wasn't sure how to get it re-lit. I asked them to come to assess our situation to see if a heat pump would work in our house and even though they don't do gas fire places, they were willing to figure it out and it was lit."

"Was happy to find a company that would service the gas furnace as well as the gas fireplace. Both are getting older, but work fine. Maintenance was done safely and quickly. Highly recommend this company."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Snohomish, WA

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
