"Our A/C unit was giving us trouble and was the original unit from when the house was built along with the furnace. I called out 5 different companies to get quotes on replacing both A/C and the Furnace, Steve Bilica from Home Comfort Systems came out looked at what I had then came in and sat down with me and started to tell me about himself and his company which really made it more personal and made me feel more confident that I was hiring the right company for the job. Steve was up front and honest with me answered all my questions and gave me what I considered the best price out of all of the companies that came. Both Mike and Rich came out around 8:30 in the morning and were finished by 2 PM. Both Mike and Rich were very professional and respectful of our home, they laid down drop cloths to cover the stairs and on all carpet area's that they would be working which was very much appreciated. I highly recommend Home Comfort Systems Thanks Steve, I will be recommending him to everyone I know."

"I found Vent on Angi and called them early Saturday. Jim Facetimed with us in order to diagnose the problem. He called twice over weekend to see how we were. He called early Monday to set a time. Showed up about 9 to check the problem. Came back around 1 and got the furnace going. Jim was on time, polite, knowledgeable, conscientious."

"My overall experience with Porterhouse Heating & Cooling was very good. I called and requested same-day service due to a gas leak. Porterhouse Heating & Cooling came out that day, replaced the shut-off ball valve, and tested the system after the repair was complete. Also Porterhouse Heating & Cooling ensured the tankless water heater was operable since gas to the house had been shut-off due to the gas leak. Additionally, I had them to conduct my annual preventative maintenance on both furnaces. This was my third (3rd) time using Porterhouse Heating & Cooling. I find them to be responsive, knowledgeable, and customer-focused."

"Tom, the heating and A/C service manager, and Kristi, the vice president, helped with our installation from beginning to end. Tom was incredibly wonderful with communication, explaining every detail patiently, and always trying to give me a heads up if anything was a little different than planned. I had called A.W.E. to help with our steam boiler system. Another company (Four Seasons) had installed a new steam boiler in our house, and the boiler had caused corroded steam pipes in the basement to burst, resulting in extensive damage to the house. My first thought had been to repair or replace the boiler and to fix the corroded pipe. However, Tom and Kristi explained quite patiently to me that because of the age of our house and the fact that multiple visible steam pipes were extensively corroded, it was not a wise idea to have a new steam boiler in our home. They explained that any new steam boiler is stronger than an old steam boiler (ours was at least over 20 years old), which most likely had been winding down for some time. They explained that when the new steam boiler pushes hot steam through the system, corroded pipes are likely to rupture. They also explained that many of these pipes are inaccessible behind walls, and if there is extensive corrosion on visible pipes, there is almost certainly corrosion on the inaccessible ones. Finally, when the necessary chemical flushes are done to clear the system of mud and debris, these chemicals can actually remove the debris that was patching holes in corroded pipes and thus facilitate bursting of pipes. We are obviously not experts in the field, but all of this made a lot of sense. It would have been easier for them to try to fix the boiler and the ruptured pipes, charge us money, and then throw their hands up in the air denying responsibility when things continued to go wrong. Instead, they turned down the job and its money because they felt repairing or replacing a steam boiler in this situation was very unwise for us. After a lot of thought, we asked A.W.E. what they would recommend, and they suggested that we try to figure out a way to install forced air heating and A/C in our house. Tom spent hours at our house, and likely hours in planning on his own I'm sure, figuring out how to make things work. He ended up using vents we already had for our existing A/C system, modifying them to make them better, and installed two separate furnace and A/C units on the first floor. Because we had never had a forced air heating system before, the spaces where the units had to fit were tight, but they made everything work. Our son was also a baby at the time, and the crew tried their best to do quieter work when the baby was napping. They also tried to be considerate with cleanliness during the project, as we had four children running/crawling barefoot around. I have been so cautious with praising them given a past terrible experience with the other heating and A/C service. I have not posted for several months, just in case things fell apart. But, it has been 3 months, and things have not fallen apart. We have very good heating and A/C on our first floor. We have fairly consistent temperatures; I would say that there is surprisingly little temperature variation between the rooms now, considering how old and drafty our home is. The Nest thermostats work well. The service technicians seem to adapt to my type-A personality and my many questions, and do their best with timeliness and cleanliness. For the most part, the techs always are polite to me, even at those times in the past when I was upset. I am sure A.W.E. is not perfect, as no company is perfect. But, it seems to be me that they are more honest and have more integrity, and try harder to do right by their customers, than any other heating and A/C company that I have ever encountered. I really hope that they stay true to themselves and continue to do the best they can, as they surely truly did with us. We are so thankful for them and to them."

"Cody showed up on time. Very polite young technician Appears to know his job well. He examined the indoor part of the system. Verified what initially indicated to his office that Freon is needed. He indicated that vents need to be cleaned before sealant and Freon can be added. Cost was as follows: $96 diagnostics + $203 for 1.5 pound Freon & labor + $60 another 30 minutes labor + $187 sealant (cost $27 on Amazon) = $545. System is working well. This cost is significantly higher than last service provider."

"We decided to replace an outdated AC unit and furnace with a brand new heat pump and furnace. After speaking with a Four Seasons sales rep, we knew they were the best choice to go with due to their thorough assessment, knowledge of products, availability of service and overall transparency. And perhaps most importantly, they were not pushy and respect our decisions on what system we felt was best for our home. As with any expenditure of this nature, there will be some ironing out of details and inevitable bumps to get everything completed, but the overall experience amounted to an energy-efficient HVAC system that was installed with care and expediency. Their service technicians are also friendly, thorough, knowledgeable, and available at a moment's notice. We are so glad that we went with Four Seasons."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Willowbrook, IL

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
