"My overall experience with Porterhouse Heating & Cooling was very good. I called and requested same-day service due to a gas leak. Porterhouse Heating & Cooling came out that day, replaced the shut-off ball valve, and tested the system after the repair was complete. Also Porterhouse Heating & Cooling ensured the tankless water heater was operable since gas to the house had been shut-off due to the gas leak. Additionally, I had them to conduct my annual preventative maintenance on both furnaces. This was my third (3rd) time using Porterhouse Heating & Cooling. I find them to be responsive, knowledgeable, and customer-focused."

"We decided to replace an outdated AC unit and furnace with a brand new heat pump and furnace. After speaking with a Four Seasons sales rep, we knew they were the best choice to go with due to their thorough assessment, knowledge of products, availability of service and overall transparency. And perhaps most importantly, they were not pushy and respect our decisions on what system we felt was best for our home. As with any expenditure of this nature, there will be some ironing out of details and inevitable bumps to get everything completed, but the overall experience amounted to an energy-efficient HVAC system that was installed with care and expediency. Their service technicians are also friendly, thorough, knowledgeable, and available at a moment's notice. We are so glad that we went with Four Seasons."

"I had a family of racoons in my attic that took over 3 months to get rid of them. The resulting mess required all the existing insulation had to be removed (combination blown in and rolled fiberglass on top of it. Also had 2 attic fans that needed to be replaced/removed, as well as the initial hole that was torn into the roof to get in by the mama racoon. I hired Assured Insulation based on not only cost, but they are a preferred contractor of the EnergySmart Nicor rebate program. Other contractors I received a cost estimate from didn't even mention anything about rebates. This wasn't the usual mail in your form and 10-12 weeks later you receive a check. Assured did all the work and I received the max rebate right off the top of the bill. I did nothing, Assured Insulation did everything. As far as the work that was done. They did a superb job, could not have asked for a better job. Ed repaired the roof hole, removed 1 attic fan and replaced another as well as redirected the vent from my bathroom fan up thru the roof (building code) vs to the soffit. Initially he told me they may have to do that, but there were no hundreds of dollars of addons, $50 over their original bid and that included a special spray that the other contractors had said they use because of the racoons. Able and the rest of the crew, who worked together very well as a team and were very courteous and considerate of us. They performed leakage tests before starting work and after completion (as part of their requirements for the rebates, not mine). • They removed all the existing insulation, including what the racoons left behind. • Sealed all the ceiling fixtures and between walls (tagged them as well so they can be found after insulation was blown in) • Sprayed the special Microban to neutralize ceilings below from the critters presence. • Installed baffles to allow attic to breathe and allow heat to rise over the insulation. • Sealed & filled in areas that leak (Kitchen soffits open and exposed, bathroom) • Built up areas that were below the 16" height of the insulation, added additional foam backing to entrance doors to the attic(s) And lastly, if I hadn't been there during the process and came home, well you would barely know that anyone even showed up. They removed all remnants of new or old insulation, cleaned the area leading to the attics, the hallways, floors, walls. just a terrific, terrific job, well beyond my expectations. I would whole heartedly recommend Assured Insulation Solutions to anyone. I don't do testimonials like this for work, but I can't say enough about the job they did."

"Great job done. Changed out both furnace and A/C units to high efficiency models. 2 guys spent a full 8 hours doing all the work and explained what they were doing throughout the whole process, educating me along the way. Cleaned up afterwards. Couldn't be happier with the choice."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Park Forest, IL

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
