"What I liked: Eliseo spent time getting to know the layout of our house and goals before recommending a system. He answered all of our questions honestly and comprehensively. Their prices seemed fair compared to other estimates we received. They were kind, considerate, good humored, and worked hard the whole time they were at our house. The system works great so far. What disappointed me: the job took longer than expected, and the electrical component that was subcontracted out cost 3 times as much as we were anticipating."

"Joe called me to let me know he was on his way. Arrive exactly on time. Wore his mask the entire time. Evaluated our HVAC system and let us know what was wrong and what was needed because we had no AC. We decided to get the Annual Maintenance today, since it s never been done , and to help it run better and clean everything up. Joe ordered the parts needed that were causing the AC to run poorly or not at all and as soon as he receives the parts he will complete the job. Joe was polite and friendly and super approachable. We would recommend Norse Heating and Cooling to our friends and hire Joe again when needed."

"My 30-year-old LiftMaster garage door opener stopped working. Marcos gave me 3 different options. I chose the Chamberlain garage door. Marcos removed the old garage door opener, installed the newone and cleaned up in less than two hours."

"My neighbor can not say enough about how great Advantage heating has been. They had purchased a new Daikin FIT system a little more than a year ago. Along with the whole experience of their sales staff and installers. Most impressed!!"

"A great system I got service right away by calling the after-hours number. Ozzy was sent out today from D&F . He analyzed the issue found the problem and fixed it. He was professional and very friendly. He replaced some hardware .. So glad I hired D&F instead of Taskrabbit which is iffy with things like plumbing.. I will definitely contact D&F with future plumbing needs. Thanks Again!!"

"Bill Basden Wood burn Oregon Bryan was very good and punctual. Diagnose the problems a faulty igniter for gas. He went to south Salem to get the part. Was back in an hour and 60 minutes later we were good to go with heat. The part he removed was put in 12/15/24 and failed on 1/31/25 . This was crappy work for another furnace. who did not want to give me a refund. from my 369..00 because it was past 30 days. they gave us 50.00 and had to fight to get that. the enclosed photo's tell the tail."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Salem, OR

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
