"As soon as I posted to Angi, Enrique called right away and came over that afternoon to give us a quote to repair our ceiling and walls after having recessed lighting installed. He was able to fit us in the next day. He and his partner showed up on time, did a nice job on the repairs, and were able to finish the same day. We were very happy with the work."

"Joey is by far the most responsive, easy-to-work-with, generous-with-information tradesman I have ever worked with. (This was an attic blow-in insulation project.) He contacted me within an hour from my submitting an estimate request. My skepticism that this might mean he was desperate for work because his work sucks simply melted away when he showed up the next morning. He was professional and informative, and after dealing with a few more contractors afterwards, the choice for me was a no-brainer. He and his worker worked cleanly and efficiently. I watched them work, and I know enough about construction to know that their work was thorough and of high quality. The project took barely half a day from start to finish. Reasonable/competitive rate. Great results (the top floor apartment maintains a decent temperature now). Best money spent in a loooong time. Just do it, people!"

"Long time since you upgraded your home? I admit I let it go for too long. Nothing was damaged but my home was a bit worn, old-fashioned and needed some love. I decided my co-op would get updated walls, ceilings and refinished hardwood floors, and I was hoping I could get it all done before the holidays. I chose Square Construction & Design after meeting with three other companies. All their prices were about the same, in fact Square was a tiny bit more, but I choose them based on their excellent reviews. There was something about Luis, the owner, that made me trust him on the spot. He really seemed to understand what I needed, and even made a few suggestions (one saving me money!) on my design upgrade. I was told it would take three weeks, and the job was not only finished in less time, but perfectly done. My entryway, hall, living room and dining room look like new! The ceiling cracks are gone, the walls are smooth and finished with Benjamin Moore paint, and my wood floors shine. Square Construction & Designâ s crew was exceptional, too! From the initial demolition guys, to the floor specialist, to the men that did the sheetrock work â all were hard-working, efficient, friendly and clearly the best at what they do. Luis came by daily to advise his crew of the dayâ s objectives and answer any questions I had. The service and the fine work were a sound investment. This company is worth every penny! I have already recommended them to my neighbors and one of them has Square Design & Construction starting next week. I know they, and you, will be pleased with their fine work. As far as my experience is concerned 10 stars, not five, are deserved. Thank you, Square Construction & Design."

"I live in a split that was built in the 70's. The room above the garage always felt like a meatlocker. The salesman said that I need to insulate the garage ceiling and attic floor. My first impression of the company from the salesman was that I didn't like the pressured sales pitch (if you don't sign the contract today we will have to charge you a LOT more) but given my choices I signed. The installers came by as scheduled, explained everything that was going to be done, did the work great & clean and were extra friendly. Today it snowed - the drafts stopped everywhere and the room is warm. Boiler doesn't run for long and turns off quicker."

Frequently Asked Questions
What is insulation?

What is insulation?
Insulation is material that provides a barrier within a home’s walls, ceilings, and floors to regulate temperature and noise. If your home gets overly hot in the summer and cold in the winter, it’s likely not insulated properly.
Insulation efficiency is measured by R-value, which determines how resistant different types of insulation are to heat flow (or energy loss). R-values are measured by inch of thickness. The higher the R-value, the better the performance and the higher the price.
How much does insulation cost?
+
How much does insulation cost?
Our project data lists insulation costs between $1,400 and $6,300, but your final price will depend on the type of insulation you choose, its R-value, and how much you need.
- Fiberglass insulation: $0.30 – $1.50
- Blown-in insulation: $1 – $2
- Spray foam insulation: $0.50 – $2
- Radiant insulation: $0.20 – $1
- Rigid board insulation: $0.25 – $1
Luckily, insulation is one of the best investments you can make in your home—it has an ROI of at least 100%, meaning you’ll likely make back what you spend in a few years or so.

What is insulation made of?
Insulation is made of many different materials, which can also impact the R-value needed for energy efficiency.
- Fiberglass: The most common insulation material made from glass. Fiberglass is a skin and lung irritant, so you’ll need to wear gloves and clothing when working with fiberglass insulation.
- Cellulose: Made from recycled paper products, plus borate for fire and insect resistance.
- Foam: Made from polystyrene, polyisocyanurate, or polyurethane plastic. You can also install cement-based foam insulation using rigid foam boards.
- Mineral wool: Made of fire-resistant rock wool, a mix of natural materials, or slag wool, made from a molten metal product.
- Natural fibers: Made from various recycled natural materials, including cotton, sheep’s wool, and straw.
Where is insulation in a house?

Where is insulation in a house?
If your attic is unfinished or you’ve ever demolished an interior wall, you might notice batt or spray foam insulation between the studs. Putting insulation between your walls and floors helps keep your home comfortable and your energy costs down. In addition to walls and attics, you can install insulation in your garage, in floors above vented crawl spaces, and basements.
- Garage Insulation: $0.50 to $1.25 per square foot
- Floor and crawl space insulation: $1 to $5 per square foot
- Basement insulation: $1.50 to $2.50 per square foot
- Wall insulation: $1 to $4 per square foot
- Attic insulation: $1,500 to $6,000
- Roof insulation: $1,500 to $4,500 or more
What are the different types of insulation?
+
What are the different types of insulation?
There are a few types of home insulation, and they all are made of different materials— most commonly, fiberglass, cellulose, and foam. Insulation includes these materials in the following forms:
- Loose-fill: Also called “blown-in,” loose-fill is sprayed into wall cavities, attics, and other oddly-shaped areas using special equipment. This insulation is usually made of fiberglass, cellulose, or mineral wool.
- Batts: An affordable insulation blanket best for unfinished spaces, such as between framing, studs, or joists. They come in pre-cut sections suitable for DIY installation and are mostly made from fiberglass, though other versions are also available.
- Rolls: Similar to batt insulation, but comes in rolls. Its make-up leaves less chance for gaps between sections and is more efficient than other types.
- Foam board: One of the most popular insulation types that can be used almost anywhere in your home. Foam boards also have a high R-value.
- Spray foam: Expands and hardens to fill gaps, small and large. Can be closed-cell or open-cell, but closed-cell has a higher R-value, making it more expensive per square foot.
- Radiant barriers: Does not reduce heat flow but directs heat away from the home instead. Radiant barriers are DIY-friendly and affordable, but they won’t be as effective in the winter months.
