"Costello Painting did an amazing job! Hugh and his brother were friendly, professional and super easy to work with. Early in the project, they had painted some of the railing and we didn't like the color we had chosen from the brochure once it was on the deck; they went back to get different paint twice until we were satisfied with the color - no problem. It was almost 90 and humid (of course) today and they still seemed like they were having fun staining our deck in the hot sun! Cleaned up after and even left us with some extra stain for down the road. These guys clearly love what they do and I would hire them again in a second! A+"

"Yovani and his team did a fantastic job. He painted the entire 1st and 2nd floor of our home in 4 days while we were away. Everything looks so great. Painting very professional. All rooms back in place including wall hangings before we returned. I highly recommend this team. They also painted and sealed our 83 year old brick home earlier in the summer."

"Jon and his son did a great job painting the interior walls of our house and the ceiling in one room. They were very nice to work with, very helpful, and did good quality work for a reasonable price. We hired them again to fix the drywall in our basement and will definitely hire them again for any future projects where they would be needed."

"We were very pleased with Steve's work ethic and attention to detail. The hardwood looks perfect and he couldn't have done a better job with it. Steve really went above and beyond with his efforts during the entire project, and you can see first hand that he truly cares about the project and the finished result. We will enjoy our beautiful hardwoods for decades now thanks to his efforts. Highly recommended. Steve also painted all the rooms and ceilings in our home and he did very solid work on that front as well. He took pride in his work, and it really shows. We would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for flooring or painting work."

"The house looks amazing! In fact, a couple of neighbors asked who did the painting, we shared the contact, and they worked with JD Hostetter also. Finally, I had received 10 quotes for the paint job, and their price was easily the best."

"Manor and his crew were very efficient and installed our landscaping in 2 days. They did what they said they would and even took on an extra project to make repairs on flashing to our home. I will definitely use them on other projects."

FAQs for painting projects in Bloomington, IN

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
