"I hired Rod West Painting to paint the upstairs of our home. Rod came in with a bid that was substantially less than what we had been qoured for the same work by another company. Where Rod and his crew differ is that we were told not to move anything, as the crew would do that for us! They took pictures down and replaced them after the painting was completed. They moved furniture and put the furniture back in the same place and they moved two heavy filing cabinets for us and put them back after the painting was completed. They print with a brush or a roller and they did not use spray paint like the previous contractor. What a difference that was from the last contractor who had us move everything out of the two rooms to be painted. That itself saved an awful lot of work for my wife and I. Rods crew was professional in every respect. They were on time each morning and the areas painted were left spotless as their cleanup was perfect. I could see this crew has worked together before and they seemed they liked what they were doing and most important, they couldn't have been been more helpful in this painting job. All told we are extremely satisfied with both the quality of the job and the cost to do the job. So impressed were we that we asked Rod to bid on an exterior paint job for our home. Rod's bgid was more than competitive so we hired Rod and his crew to paint the exterior of our home as out next project. If you need to paint anything in your home, Rod and his crew are the guys you want to do the job! I rated Rod West Painting 5 ourt of five stars and if there were 10 stars he would had gotten a 10 star rating! If you want painting done in your home, Rod West is your guy!"

"ALR Painting did such a fantastic job. My home was built in 1908 and the original paint was chipping away and old. Alex was able to match the exact color of the house and went above and beyond my expectations. I was particularly impressed with the care he took in prepping the home prior to painting- scraping, sanding, and caulking. The paint job wasn’t easy. Alex definitely takes pride in his work and he managed to complete the project much faster than I expected. My house looks AMAZING! I could not be happier with my experience and I highly recommend ALR Painting to others."

"I needed to paint the interior and exterior of an addition to our house and found Pacific District 808 on HomeAdvisor.com. Being relatively new to the website, I wasn’t that confident. But Daniel, the owner, promptly scheduled a time to look at the job. He provided a very detailed written quote a day later and his pricing was extremely competitive. The work was done on schedule and it was a beautiful job. In fact, after seeing the quality of his work and his dependability, I asked Daniel to paint the rest of our house. Best of all, all the workers and most especially Daniel were easy and fun to work with. I''m a little bit of a perfectionist and Pacific District 808 met all my expectations!"

"We had a big kitchen remodel with layout changes, so we were a bit nervous at first. Ron made the process a lot easier than expected. He coordinated everything and made sure each step was done properly before moving on. The workmanship is solid, and the finishes look high-end. We?re really happy we chose Ocean Seven Builders!"

FAQs for painting projects in Chicago Park, CA

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
