"Juan and his crew were incredible. From start to finish, Juan communicated with us throughout the whole process and we are beyond happy with the finished product. We had probably over 50+ cabinet doors & drawers to repaint + the trim & kitchen walls, so it was a pretty big job. However, they were able to finish it all in the time frame they promised with incredible attention to detail -- our cabinets look like they're brand new! For reference, we went from a light wood to white, and we couldn't be happier with how they turned out. They even fixed up some moisture damage on our wood & filled in some holes left from old owners. They were also on time every morning, very professional, but also a lot of fun :) Our kids miss seeing them every morning! These guys know what they're doing, and we will definitely be using them again in the future. Couldn't recommend them enough!"

"When we signed on with P.R.I. , we were already looking at a couple of oncoming storms, so the first thing they did was to protect us with a tarp -- Thank God! When the weather cleared, they set about replacing our very old, very leaky roof with a brand new, beautiful roof, repairing the damaged wood beneath as they went. Given the problematic pitch of the roof over our kitchen -- previously leak central -- Aggy (the owner) took care to use a different roofing material over our kitchen, to better accommodate and minimize standing water. When it was all done, we loved it so much that when Aggy said they also painted houses, we immediately followed the new roof with a new paint job. As the painting progressed, we were pleasantly surprised when they took care of things we hadn't expected, like priming and painting our garage and front & back doors to match (we really thought we were going to have to replace the garage door completely). And, just like the roof, they either replaced or repaired rotted wood. To finish it off, they installed brand new gutters, complete with leaf guards, all around. While they were working, the crews were very respectful and careful about our property, cleaning up every day before they left, often leaving areas cleaner than they found them. Everything was so well protected that we haven't seen a spec of paint anywhere it shouldn't be. We feel like we're living in a brand new home. We no longer have to be afraid of the rain, or ashamed of our drab and dilapidated exterior. And, while our neighbors have been very complimentary, some are a bit grumpy, saying that they now feel pressured to update their own exteriors. Our experience with Aggy and P.R.I. - Premiere Roofing could not have been better. We'd recommend them to anyone looking for a capable and trustworthy roofing/painting contractor."

"I highly recommend Colby Painting—they are professional, affordable, and darn good painters! Working with Tyler Colby was easy, even as we had various hurdles crop up throughout the process. He gave us a quoted range based on pictures and a description when we were in escrow for a townhome—and stuck to it! He helped us pick paint colors that complemented each other and gave numerous recommendations based on his experience painting other homes. The crew (Dago and Fidel) showed up on time every morning and worked long hours. Their attention to detail was phenomenal and they took great care to protect our counters, railings, fireplace, etc. while painting. They didn’t mind accommodating different contractors that we had come through and were willing to be flexible as schedules changed. They were incredibly polite and willing to help with many random small tasks, including doubling back to paint under vents that we belatedly decided to change. The result is phenomenal! A really solid paint job by really great guys at a really great price!"

"If you want professional work done, Mark is the one to hire. I had him paint some kitchen cabinets and he did a great job. He has been in business for over 20 years and it shows. I have hired other people for other jobs and you could tell they did not know what they were doing. Mark is very likeable and goes out of his way to help such as I needed help lifting something and he was right there to help me. He also made some very useful suggestions relateing to the job. I have used what he told me.. If I needed other work done I would call him. I did pay a little more then I wanted to, but Mark did such a nice job. He is the man to hire"

"This job was to renovate my home in preparation to sell it in early March. It consisted of a kitchen and 3 bathroom upgrade, flooring and lighting fixture replacement, painting and removal of 3 popcorn ceilings. Beginning the second week of January, the entire job was completed within 6 weeks. When first hired, the principal of Palm Construction carefully tuned in to my specific needs and targeted timeframe, offering succinct suggestions respects colors, style and quality of products used. Specialists in each trade worked cohesively with each other, as well as alongside other contractors that I had personally hired separately for windows and pool replaster. Although I had intended to live in the property during the renovation, I quickly realized that my occupancy was impeding progress, so I made the decision to vacate the premises. This was especially important during the removal of popcorn ceilings which contained asbestos. The work moved seamlessly from the removal of kitchen counters, sink, cabinet doors, appliances and flooring to the demolition of 3 bathrooms. Timely mutual decisions were made about fixtures, mirrors, flooring, sinks, vanities, paint and hardware, allowing the job to progress steadily to reach very precise goals. Along the way, it was determined that the air ducts needed replacing and AC would be a welcome addition to the total job. These issues were discussed and explained clearly and quoted at a reasonable cost - so I decided to add the change orders. Although I had never been involved with a home renovation in the past, I was very impressed with the patience and care taken to communicate with me throughout the entire job. I was a demanding customer with an expectation of perfectionism and Palm Construction was up for the challenge. Beyond the scope of the original job, Palm went above and beyond with finishing touches and little extras here and there. They've come back to help me even after completion of the job, when I needed some additional retrofits for my appliance installation, which was not even part of the original job. I know that I can count on Palm Construction to be responsive and willing for anything that may come up in the future. I learned that they are a GC that you can totally trust and rely on. In summary, I am in awe of the completed work. My friends and neighbors are astonished with the transformation of my home. The end product is flawless and most impressive. My realtor has already offered Palm Construction opportunities for other jobs. My neighbors have asked for their contact information to get quotes. I highly recommend Palm Construction for your renovation work, whether it is a large or small job. During the 6 weeks of this job, I got to know the principal, Guy Yaakov, and his team. Despite the complexities of the job and the incidental issues that came up, the personal follow-through and attention paid to all questions and requests were taken care of expeditiously and professionally. I couldn't be happier, plus, I made a friend. Thanks, Guy!!!!"

"We have had some storm damage on our singles since El Nino hit us in 2018. Ever since, weâ ve been having leaks, and I honestly didnâ t bother getting it fixed. That was a big mistake on my end because recently weâ ve been experiencing some mold growth in our attic & ceiling. Thatâ s when I made the call to Journey Builders, and they ended up repairing my shingles and taking care of the mold problem. It was a great experience working with Manny, he really saved me from a big headache."

"I hired Nathan Martinez and his crew to paint my 1910 two start Edwardian in Berkeley. The house is so old some of the wood panels had rotted in the back. Nathan is a skilled carpenter as well as painter and replaced the panels with new wood at a minimum cost. Nathan offers thousands of colors to choose from. We choose a beautiful sage green with a dark green trim. The porch is brilliant dove white. Nathan's crew continually asked my opinion on how the job was going and if the trim was painted exactly how I wanted. Nathan spent 1 day to repair the rotten wood and just 3 days to prime, paint and trim. The total cost of under $5K was much less that other painters who quoted me $10K or more. Thank you Nathan, Fabian, and crew for a job well done. Best Regards, Marc Paruta, Berkeley, CA"

Frequently asked questions
Painters usually price a job by the square feet of the project. Sometimes they’ll include flat fees for fixed expenses, like overhead and permits.
We make finding a painter easy. Simple use our directory to find a painter. Here you can browse local pros, check their reviews and do your first screening without ever having to call. We’ve also prescreened all the pros for you, to give you peace of mind.
Interior painting makes for a doable DIY project. You can save some money and get a real sense of accomplishment by doing this yourself. And, with the right prep work – covering, taping and scraping – it’s fairly forgiving. But it takes a lot of time to move furniture, tape trim, prep the surface and cover your floor, let alone apply the actual paint. Instead, save yourself the time and hassle and find a local interior painter.
Leave exterior painting to the pros. Not only do you need to worry about the type and quality of the paint, you’ll also likely need a ladder and considerably more prep work. You’ll likely need additional equipment like ladders, scaffolding and possibly a paint sprayer. It’s almost cheaper to just hire a pro. Talk to a local exterior house painter about your project.
- Do your research. Understand what to expect and what to look for in a pro. Look at paint types, prices and costs.
- Interior home painting costs $1,000-$2,800
- Exterior painting costs $1,700-$4,100
- Painting a ceiling costs $150-$350
- Painting cabinets costs $350-$1,200
- Trim painting costs $500-$1,500
- Calculate paint coverage
- Call pros for site inspections and estimates. Always get three to five estimates.
- Check references, compare quotes, look at past work. After you have estimates in hand, do one final pass to compare the contractors.
- Sign a contract with the pro of your choice. You might need to make a down payment, usually 25% to 50% of the total project cost to cover material costs, but not all pros require this. Don’t pay for the entire project upfront.
- A complete inspection. Each pro takes a walk around your home to evaluate the condition of your current paint, the size of the job and any obstacles for accessing the site. They do this to see how much prep work they’ll need and estimate how long the job will take. The more thorough the inspection, the more accurate the quote.
- Color consultation. Expect each contractor to have varying color options and suggestions. However, you have the final say.
- Listen to the pro – they’re experts after all – but don’t get pushed into a color combination or finish type that you don’t want. Understand the different exterior paints or interior paint choices before your pro arrives.
- A rough estimate or complete quote. Finishing contractors vary here. Usually, they can quote straightforward projects on the spot. But some may need to take it back to their shop to run numbers and give you a detailed estimate with costs broken out. Neither method is better than the other, but just make sure to get multiple quotes.
- How long have you been in business? A long business history helps you avoid shoddy companies. It’s hard for a service business to stay in business if they don’t do good work.
- Are you licensed and insured? Not all states require a license for painting homes, but many do. Always use one that’s insured.
- Do you belong to any professional organizations? You’ll find many online, like the Painting Contractors Association or the Finishing Contractors Association?
- Do you have other work I can look at? Always check a portfolio or, in the case of painters, it’s better to look at work they did a few years ago to see how well it’s held up.
- How long will the job take? Get a rough estimate but get it in writing.
- How many people are in your crew? This is especially important if you work remotely. More people generally means more noise, but they’ll be done faster.
- Will I be in the way if I’m home during the painting? You usually won’t be in the way, but this question helps you understand what to expect while they’re working. They’ll need to lay down coverings and do a lot of prep work.
- Do you guarantee your work? Never hire a painter who doesn’t guarantee their work. This often means they’ll rush the prep work, since peeling never happens right away.
- What type of paint do you use, and how long is it rated to last? Different rooms need different paint and the exterior needs exterior paint. It comes in different grades with different guaranteed lifetimes.
- Can you supply a written estimate and contract? Never use a painter who isn’t willing to put his work in writing.
