"I am pleased to refer Chris Miller for any home painting project, from simple to detailed, that you may be considering. Chris painted my villa condo's large deck, railing, and pergola with excellent preparation and skill. He left the site tidy while work was in progress and cleaned up after himself when the job was completed. I was very pleased with the results of Chris's work and hired him to come back a few weeks later to do a few other small painting projects for me. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend Chris Miller Contracting LLC to anyone looking for a friendly professional painter. tidy while the work was in progress and made sure to clean up after the job was completed. "The men that came to stain my exterior of the house (just west and south side) were not given the correct information on what to stain. They had to call J&J Painting to get the correct info a couple of times."

"Highly recommend for your interior painting needs in Peoria, Illinois! Amazing experience from start to finish. We went with Blank Slate at the recommendation of a contractor after getting several quotes. The quote was fair, they were able to get us in earlier than we expected and the end result is amazing! Our house had a lot of damage from previous owners. The trim was in bad shape, the walls were also rough and the entire house needed to be painted from top to bottom. It looks like a brand new house! Communication is amazing as well. We will use them again in the future!"

"I bought an Angie's List Deal for $200 for 8 hours of painting from Pride Decorating.  Joe returned my call promptly and came out that same day to take a look at the space and let me know what would be feasible during the time period that I had paid for.  He called me a couple days later to schedule.

He arrived right at the arranged time, did all the work that we discussed, cleaned up everything thoroughly.

He was professional, prompt, and easy to work with.

"Based on our past experience with AOM (interior painting), we used them to powerwash our home. They had all the appropriate equipment and did an excellent job. Our 20 year old vinyl siding looks totally refreshed. David is easy to work with and goes the extra mile. We will continue to AOM for future projects.

"Loved working with Scott. Hired him to paint my bathroom. He contacted me quickly, came to the house to see project and painted the bathroom. Start to finish one week. He's polite, cleans up after, and he did a great paint job. Going to hire him for another project. Highly recommend Calhoun Paint and Services."

FAQs for painting projects in Knoxville, IL

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
