"Our project involved removing wallpaper, that was painted over, painting trims, patching and covering some small tracks. We interviewed 4 companies and at the end we chose Dr Paint. They were professionals. Every day they would clean up, remove the trash. They worked on Saturday's so they can finish the job on a deadline we requested. And they did. The house looks great as a result of their work. I would recommend them to my family and friends. Great price and great job, we are very happy."

"J&J Painting was very easy to work with and did a great job on a variety of exterior painting and staining projects for us. He was knowledgeable and explained all the steps required and was very helpful with choosing colors and stains. I am so happy with how great and revitalized our custom wood front door looks with its new stain and varnish! The other exterior projects were also done thoroughly with excellent results. I will use J&J again on any future interior or exterior projects and highly recommend them!"

"Derek end his team at Complete Painting & Restoration truly exceeded our expectations. As first time homebuyers, the prospect of painting all 2,100 sqft of our townhouse one neutral wall color with one trim seemed daunting. Derek and his team made the entire process seamless and even helped us select colors. We will definitely be using Complete Painting & Restoration again."

"Lilean Touch did a great job with our stucco repair. Based on our discussions, it was clear they knew what they were doing. They were able to get the job done quickly and cleaned up well. The stucco looks great -- they also patched up a hole that was causing seepage. Our agreement was that they would do the stucco and I would do the painting. I had an impossible time trying to find the right paint. When I called for advice they went the extra mile and ordered the paint and dropped it off at my house! I'll use them again in a heartbeat!"

Small jobs welcome

"Outstanding Job Done! Davossi Pro Painting owner David is professional, punctual, great at communication, detail oriented, and charges a reasonable rate. He repaired and painted the garage doors and frames. We accidentally picked a color that was too yellow when the sun hit it, so he repainted for a small charge. David handled the situation very nicely! Then he refinished my 9 year old front door. It has been restored back to it orginal beauty! I highly recommend this company and he is at the top of list for all my painting or staining jobs."

FAQs for painting projects in La Grange, IL

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
