"We were nervous about having our cabinets painted white, but I saw work Distinctive Enterprises did at my friend's home and was so impressed. We hired them to paint our kitchen cabinets white and my husband and I could not be happier with the outcome. I had tears in my eyes when I walked in and saw it finished. Carlos and his team were kind and punctual. There was a lot of plastic put up to cover our walls, floor and even the ceiling. After they finished the job, you would never have known it looked like a painting factory earlier that day. I highly recommend Distinctive Enterprises for any paint job, and I am sure we will be hiring them again for a future paint project."

Customers say: True professional

"Homan Painting is a two-man operation. Jim and his brother gave us a reasonable bid and so we hired them. They were professional and reliable. They prepped the house by power washing and doing some scraping. They don't scrape old paint as much as other companies I have seen a worked with. Instead they scrape some and then use a product that adheres to the old paint and walls and is supposed to keep the new paint from flaking off. Fingers crossed this will work. It took about 10 days from start to finish. They did a good job and were pleasant to work with."

"Overall, we are very satisfied and would recommend. This was our first time having the house painted and Samantha patiently helped us to work through our options. We had a couple of trim boards replaced due to dry rot. They pressure washed the house and prepped it for painting in about a day. The painters asked questions to make sure they understood what we wanted. We had a little trouble with rain, but they worked hard to get it done quickly. Our yard is small and the sides are tight, but they worked it out and didn't need to access the neighbors' yards. We didn't have any unwelcome surprises like debris left behind or paint smudges in weird places and no complaints from the neighbors. One neighbor has already requested Sunshine Painting's contact info and we were happy to give it to them!"

"Sunnyside Painting just completed staining my cedar fence, which hadn't been stained in about 8 years. The fence looks fantastic!! The team was very professional and polite. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs painting done."

"I hired Bruce for my new construction, interior and exterior. He exceeded our expectations. He kept in touch to ensure it was done in a timely manner and in the window we were wanting it. If fact we were so happy with the end result we hired him again for our rental unit. We even had new carpets installed the day before he arrived to paint (Due to a tight timeline) and after inspecting the house when he was finish you would have thought he painted before they were installed. I didn’t see a drop of paint on it. The rental looked just as good as our new build. We will continue to hire him for all our painting needs."

"We are glad to find Hello Painting through HomeAdviser for our exterior painting project. We received nothing but professional service from the initial estimate/proposal by Vadim (Co-owner), scheduling by Slavic (C0-owner), and prep/painting by a crew of 4. We are very happy with the Hello Painting team and would recommend them without any hesitation."

"Trevor came out and did a great job. He was easy to work with and communicated what needed to be done clearly. There was no mess left when he was done. All my interactions with Shades of Rose, from their office staff to their painters, have been excellent. I also really appreciate that they are willing to come out and do these little jobs in between full repaints as many big painting companies won't do that. It is really good customer care and something to consider when picking someone to do the full repaint.

FAQs for painting projects in Vancouver, WA

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
