Customers say: Quick response

"Joe and his wife Ana did a phenomenal job on a paint project at our home!!! They are unbelievably talented and their attention to detail was outstanding. Their pricing was fair and they even asked for a lower amount when it was time to pay them because it didn't take as long as was anticipated to complete the job. His business name is called Just Joe and he does many other things besides painting including roofing, carpentry and masonry to name a few. Joe was prompt, friendly and hardworking. We did a little of the painting ourselves and he was in contact with us via text prior to coming to do the paint job just to check in and see how we were doing. He was very friendly and always had a smile on his face. He clearly takes great pride in his work. We will definitely contact him first for any of our home upkeep needs or projects and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a meticulous professional to do household jobs."

"i was thoroughly satisfied with the recent exterior painting done on my house by Alden Painting. John Alden and his son John Jr are consummate professionals. They appeared on time, worked diligently while they were on the job and the result of their labors is clearly evident i have already had numerous comments from my neighbors on their work. All surfaces that needed to be painted were prepped very carefully and power washed sanded and patched where necessary. Paint application which involved a 3 color pallette was thorogh and accurately done and any necessary cleanup was done properly and completely. They were personable and open to suggestions and a joy to work with. I clearly recommend them to anybody looking for their services and they will be my first choice for any other painting projects i have coming up."

"We had cracks in the dyed mortar of the bricks above our garage. Grady took the time to match the color, even with the color having aged 10 years, and you would not even be able to tell that there was new mortar. If your project is anything like ours, you will not be disappointed."

FAQs for painting projects in Whitehall, NY

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
