"Oscar was great to work with and patient on my request for brick stain and picking colors while there is a national shortage. Hard workers. Good job. Not quite the level of detailed my ocd desires but Iâ ve never had a house painted before and it would take me months and months to do it that way! Ha. Would highly recommend."

"John and his sons painted 3 walls white in our master bedroom, plus two doors , trim, and baseboards. They painted one accent wall. They did an excellent and professional job. They did all the prep work-protecting furniture with plastic etc. After they painted, they cleaned everything. We would highly recommend these painters!!"

"Painting Time, LLC did a fantastic job of painting the interior of my house. I would hire them again for any and all painting needs. I interviewed and got quotes from four paint companies. Painting Time was neither the most expensive nor the least expensive, but they were definitely in the less expensive range and around the price I expected to pay for my 2,000 sq foot home interior. The price was competitive, I changed what I was looking for, and they remained patient and supportive. When hired, they arrived on time and departed when they said they would each day. They painted my whole house - including interior doors, closet doors, repairs to older patches and seamless retextures of my textured walls - all in under 3 days! The result is beautiful, and the people were great to work with! Highly recommend."

"Harrison and his crew exceeded my expectations! They extensively prepped our house including covering all surfaces that should not be painted, and caulking all the seams before painting. I was nervous about getting the exterior of our home painted, but was so pleased with the final result! Harrison made sure the job was completed smoothly and quickly. Thanks for a job well done!"

"Great! JTB Painting easily won our job on the basis of price and his reviews on Angie's List. He prepped and painted all exterior wood surfaces and trim on our house in Irving, TX. We found Jeff to be as good or better than his reviews. He gave us a great price, did excellent work prepping and painting our house, and completed the work with the time he said it would take. It was very hot outside, but he worked through the heat of the day to get the job done. My next-door neighbor was so impressed with the work Jeff did on my house, he hired JTB to do his house, too! Jeff is honest, hard-working, soft-spoken, does great work, and is as good as his word."

Customers say: True professional

"Ernesto and his crew were amazing from start to finish. He was so kind and really paid attention to detail. He re-stained and repaired our back patio railing as well as painted our farmhouse interior/exterior doors. We will definitely call him again for any painting we need done at our home. Definitely a 5 star rating."

"I was redoing my mom’s home and didn’t have the budget to gut the kitchen. I decided I wanted to paint the cabinets but knew it was above my pay grade. My handy man recommended Ross and he was AWESOME! He totally transformed the kitchen! He used high quality primer and paint. His prepping the space was great. Often time crews skimp on this step. Not Ross. There was NOT a spot of paint anywhere on my floors, counters or back splash. It’s been over a year and the cabinets look as good as the day he painted them. Plan on having him back for my exterior eventually. A+++"

FAQs for painting projects in Austin, TX

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
