"They're wonderful! They gave a reasonable quote, they did a good job and they painted the whole house for 1 day and they come back the next day for the touch ups that needed to be done."

"Fidel and his crew were prompt, professional, protected my stuff, took measures to keep dust down, and cleaned up behind themselves. Took 3 guys 7 hours to do some significant drywall work in master, full paint master, full paint 10x13 br with 15’ ceilings and prime and paint my guest path ceiling with water damage. Highly recommend."

"Was very happy with the quality and results of the painting done. That said we did have a problem. While the painters were working I stayed in my office at the end of the house and my wife stayed in the basement doing work to give the painters freedom of traffic. In the kitchen on a counter I keep my wallet and checkbook, the next day getting ready to go to the store I checked my wallet and all my money was missing, $180.00. I contacted Painter 1 who were shocked and supported anything I wanted to do. As I total them since I didn't see it happen I didn't think I could prove in 100%. Painter 1 emailed me that they had quit using these people as of now. Yes hired this company for quality work, but keep an eye on workers, as I should have."

Customers say: Quick response

"Costello Painting did an amazing job! Hugh and his brother were friendly, professional and super easy to work with. Early in the project, they had painted some of the railing and we didn't like the color we had chosen from the brochure once it was on the deck; they went back to get different paint twice until we were satisfied with the color - no problem. It was almost 90 and humid (of course) today and they still seemed like they were having fun staining our deck in the hot sun! Cleaned up after and even left us with some extra stain for down the road. These guys clearly love what they do and I would hire them again in a second! A+"

FAQs for painting projects in Danville, IN

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
