"My new favorite contractor in Bellingham. Actually, I think the only one I've liked this much to even have a favorite. True pros, very responsive and communicative, plus super nice to deal with. They painted the inside of our house from ceiling to floor and the results were just amazing. Every day that I came to check on the progress, they surprised me with how detailed they were. We had discussed clean seam lines; they gave us clean seam lines. I asked them to please not paint over the brand new hardware; no painted over hardware. I asked to please protect the wood floors; all floors were covered. I emailed my list of selected paint colors, accents and where they go, and they actually kept the list and followed through on itâ  AND they cleaned up their own mess. I list all this to show how detailed and caring they are about your property, which is not a common trait with all contractors. Kudos to the Evergreen team and thank you so much for contributing to our home looking so awesome!"

"Trim Line Painting quickly responded to my request for External House Painting quote. I selected them (from multiple quotes) because they had experience with staining a cedar structure, their price was fair, they provided references and photos of previous clients. Glen (owner), was very good about letting me know the scheduling of my project and when he would be on site. This was a great experience and I highly recommend your consider Trim Line Painting for your next project!"

Customers say: Quality work

"We were on a stressful time crunch and had been ghosted by previous painters. Al and Rick came the same day I called to check out the job and then got it done in two work days. The sale of our house was pending on this work, so it was very important to us. And they did a great job on top of being fast! And they both are very polite and fun to talk to. I stink at painting so next time we need painting done, I’ll just call them."

"My wife and I were very satisfied with the interior painting job performed by Byron for our condominium. Once he started our job, he gave our home his full attention and completed his work ahead of schedule. Our condominium was fully furnished, which made his work more difficult. He worked with us day to day to minimize the inconveniences to us. Byron is very professional and helped us plan the major decisions in advance. I would definitely recommend Baron Painting to my neighbors and friends."

FAQs for painting projects in Ferndale, WA

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
