"Over the course of a week, we had seen a rat in the basement, then after setting traps, caught one rat and several mice.  Not convinced the problem was gone, we called a pest control company (Green Planet, based on a combination of Yelp and Angie's List reviews).

Todd from Green Planet asked about our rodent (mice & rat) problem, then looked around our townhouse looking for evidence of rodent activity, holes/gaps where they could have gotten in, etc.  He (very thoroughly) sealed a couple holes where he found evidence of rats, and a few others that looked like they could have been used by mice.  He used a combination of cement, wire mesh, and foam, depending on the surrounding building materials and the location of the hole.

He also placed a few traps in our basement (we didn't want any bait/poison, since we have both a dog and a small child).  Since the initial visit, we haven't seen any evidence of any more rodent activity.  All in all, very satisfied with their service.
