"I was getting sewer backup through my basement floor drain, so I called a local plumbing outfit who referred me to A-1. The service guy was at my house within the hour and got right to work snaking the main sewer line. He did it twice, once with the smaller head and once with the full sized head. Very thorough. He got the job done, cleaned up after himself, and was very courteous and friendly. I would definitely use A-1 again."

"I called and scheduled the appointment approximately 1 week before they could complete the work. I was planning to replace the toliet myself when i found the broken flange and elbow, so i was able to explain the exact issue to the scheduler. Fortunately, the details seemed to have been accurately recorded and seemed to have been explained to the plumbers (two) who eventually came out. The morning of the appointment I received a call that someone was on their way out. I don't recall the exact time, but sometime mid morning and within the window of time i was originally told. The plumbers arrived and explained having two people made the process go faster/smoother since it would require jack hammering. They took a quick look, explained it would probably be about a days work and would run about $800. They also said its hard to know exactly how much it would cost until they opened the floor up. I told them to go ahead and they got to work. The plumbers placed drop clothes all the way from the bathroom in the basement to the door upstairs, including the stairs. As one guy hammered the other loaded the concrete up in buckets and hauled them out. They were able to access the coupler from the main cast iron line by hammering out a small section of the bathroom floor. It was unknown if they would find coupler or if the pipe below the floor would have to be cut; this was good news as no additional cutting was necessary. They were able to remove the old coupler elbow and toilet flange. They replaced the coupler, elbow and flange with parts in their van. Despite the fact that they had brought a jack hammer and knew they would be removing concrete, they did not bring any concrete mix or lag screws to secure the new flange down. I believe they were expecting the demolition and plumbing repair portion to take longer and could have picked up the additional supplies after lunch. However, since the demo and plumbing repairs only took a little over an hour, they were going to have to go get these items. I'm not sure if i would have been billed for this additional time, but i don't quite understand why all the supplies would not have been loaded before heading to the job. Despite that, I ended up having a few bags of concrete and ran to the hardware store and bought the lag screws as they were finishing up with the plumbing portion of the repairs. The rest of the job went as planned; mixed and poured concrete, set the flange bolts and cleaned up. Since the concrete needed to set, i informed them i would set the toilet after it fully cured later. They then wrote up the bill and accepted my 10% off coupon. The resulting bill for 2 plumbers working roughly 2.5-3 hours and replacing a no-hub coupler, a pvc elbow and a toilet flange ran $562 (625 before the coupon). I'm pleased it was less than the bid, but considering it took less than half a day, i'm wondering if i ended up paying a bit too much. Part of my reason for second guessing this, is the fact that service invoice did not itemize anything (no labor costs, no hardware costs) It simply stated what was done and an item cost for the entire job. Had i been told the job had a flat cost, i would say that $562 was fair, but because of this ambiguity its tough to know if i over paid or not. I should note that the plumber did a very good job with everything related to the repair, but i had to lower the rating for professionalism because of the poor information on the invoice. I've called laneys since this repair and don't consider it enough of an issue to call other service companies, but i would hope that they do a better job of clarifying what they are actually billing for on future jobs. <br />"

"Speedy Plumbing is a solid name for this company. They were quick, informative, and way friendlier than you would expect plumbers to be. When I called, an older man answered and said they could be over right away, but I had to go to work so he arranged an appointment for the first thing in the morning and cracked a few plumber jokes before we ended the conversation. In the morning, a devastatingly handsome young man came, identified the problem in minutes, explained to me what he was going to do, and got it done. He made friends with my dog and cat and didn't even smell like a sewer. The price was cheaper than other places I saw and so far, the problem seems to be resolved. I'd hire these guys again."
