"Paying broker fees, $400, to a 3rd party (United) always sucks to get to the carrier for the actual transport I've had to work with United on several occasions and they do competent work for the $400 and work with reputable carriers who do the actual transport of the vehicle. My recommendation is to identify a carrier and work with them directy to cut out the broker fees altogether. This should be easier to do in a big city with transport between big cities where there is more competition."
