"when I asked for an estimate on my ceiling fan installation, Murphy responded quickly with a time estimate, and suggested a couple of deals they had available with Angie's list. I took them up on the deal that seemed the best fit for my project, and made an appointment for the work online, so easy! The techs were on time, polite and professional. excellent work on the install, including electrical boxes and remote controls."

"The installation was flawless.
The workers arrived on time and promptly got started.  The lighting installation was in a second floor bedroom, so much of the work had to be done from the attic.  Because of the location of the light switch relative to the new lights and the restricted attic access, the workers encountered an obstacle or two during the installation.  They worked around the issues like pros and delivered an end product that was perfect.
I would most certainly use this company for future electrical work.

"He came out and gave me a quote and everything. But I ended up going with another provider. I ended up going with someone else, not for anything they did wrong. I just made a different choice. The worker was very professional."

"Excellent! I worked with Live Electric before and didn't hesitate to call them for this project. The timing throughout the project was tricky because we/he had to coordinate with the construction contractor and Live Elect. had to come out several times at different points during the job. Anthony and his team were extremely accommodating and worked very well with the bath contractor to plan and complete the work within the project timelines. Before and during the project, Anthony took the time to help design the lighting plan which ended up being more complex than I thought it would. He even came by with a portable power station to power up the light fixtures I had bought to help me understand/visualize the amount of light we needed in the finished bathroom. He saved us a lot of money and trouble! For example, I thought we needed and quot;layers of lightand quot;/recessed lighting in addition to vanity lights -- he advised that the recessed lights were not necessary and might even cause and quot;shadowsand quot; (and he was right!). The original fixtures I bought ended up not being enough light over the vanity and I would have been very disappointed in the end, but because he took the time to walk through the lighting with me, we switched the fixtures around and adjusted their placement and now they are perfect and we are very pleased with the overall lighting in the bath.
Live electric took the time to cover their path with drop cloths (stairs, hallways, entry to attic, etc.) and so didn't leave a spec of dirt behind. They took all the trash away. Also, they didn't leave any damage to the new drywall (which is unusual) and so all the lighting and fans look great, placement is perfect and very professional. The lighting provided the finishing touch on our beautiful bathroom and I have Live Electric to thank for it.

"I used the online tool for a starting/basepoint to compare to AHS. Was provided a quote of $610, and service fees of $75. Immediately following, I received 3 phone calls to sign up and purchase the warranty, which was irritating. I declined as I wanted time to do some online research, reviews, etc. The next day (5/26/2021) I called the 1-800 number to move forward with a purchase. "Jay" identified himself as a supervisor of customer service, and proceeded to move forward with his script for purchasing a warranty (I had no problem with that initially, par for the course). He talked extremely quickly. When we got to pricing, he told me the deal for that day was $660. This was $50 more than the online quote I had the day before, which I told him. Then Jay explained he would get me $100 off, and an additional month of coverage, so 13 months of coverage. This was for the Total Plan (A/C, heating, electrical, plumbing, etc.). Throughout this conversation, I was constantly interrupted by Jay - his listening skills were poor. I finally had to insist he just be quiet and listen, as I explained what I wanted to accomplish (we were purchasing the warranty for our son's first home). While I provided our son's contact info for the purposes of the warranty, I also wanted a copy sent to me as I was paying for it, and I wanted to see in writing what I was paying for - Jay said that was no problem, he would add my email address after the transaction (i.e., payment) was complete and then would send me a copy of the warranty. Next was something else Jay offered - the "VIP option" - and I agreed to listen. It was just a further sales pitch for a 3 year agreement at a reduced annual rate. Fair enough, but I was not interested. Jay made 3 more attempts to sell me this option before I had to rather forcefully say not to mention it again. It is clear both from the immediate follow-up calls from 3 different people that Choice Home Warranty has some commission or incentive program for their associates, and I agree that's terrific. However, a more coordinated outreach would go a long way toward not annoying potential customers - one follow-up call is fine, but 3 consecutively is just annoying. Also, I never did receive a copy of the contract I paid for despite Jay's promises to send it to me. My son sent it to me, and upon review, I see that the service fee is not $75, but is $85. I will be making a follow-up call to correct that - or cancel the warranty depending on the response from CHW. It isn't effective for 30 days, and as Jay said - I can opt out at any time. So that's it in a nutshell from just trying to get a warranty. I hope their service is better than this experience."

"Ferguson Home Improvements did a fantastic job.  All the work that needed to get done, was finished beyond my expectations.  The workers were very friendly.  The job took a little longer that expected, but Ferguson Home Improvements were not at fault, the weather played a major factor with the deck stain and door installation.  At the time the work was getting done, we received a lot of rain and storms.  All in all, I would highly recommend Ferguson Home Improvements.

FAQs for electrical for home addition or remodel installation projects in Abingdon, VA

There are several telltale signs that your home is due for an electrical upgrade. You may need to rewire your house if your lights are constantly flickering or your circuit breaker keeps tripping. If you feel mild electric shocks when you touch light switches, hear buzzing sounds, or notice burning smells, you may need to rewire your house, too. Discolored or burnt-looking switches and faceplates are another crucial warning sign.

Properly installed copper wiring in a residential property can last as long as 50 to 100 years in some cases, but many homes over 30 years old are due for an upgrade. That’s the timeline that many experts recommend, even if it is only a partial update to accommodate technological advancements, increased power demands, and changing safety requirements.

At $3 to $5 per square foot, the cost to wire a 2,000-square-foot house ranges from $6,000 to $10,000, on average. This can depend on many factors, like the age and complexity of the house and how easy it is for contractors to access the areas they need to get the job done. Opening and repairing walls can further add to your total cost.
