"We have a 105-year old house with chimney problems. Chimney moisture is seeping through the plaster on inside of the house along the two chimneys in use, and the chimney for the furnace seems to be blocked. Al arrived promptly at the arranged time and took a look at everything, the inside damage, the exteriors of the chimneys, and the very old furnace in the basement, which we had also planned to replace this year. Al's professional assessment was that remedial work on the chimneys, including relining to prevent any recurrence of the problem, was not cost efficient if we still had to buy a new furnace. Also, the height of the chimney for the hot water heater was excessive and likely causing a draft problem on that chimney. Al's recommendation was to not put any money into chimney repairs and look into buying a high-efficiency furnace that would vent through the side of the house, bypassing the bad chimney. He recommended the same for the hot water heater, but since the unit was new, a vent booster fan could be used with the existing unit. Al was friendly and courteous and did not accept payment for his time and recommendation. Thank you Al!"

Burns & Scalo inspected the roof and repaired some damaged shingles and sealed a pipe flange. Both repairs were in a section of roof not part of the original project. "I can't say enough good things about Sweet Success Contractors. I initially hired them for a huge plaster repair job. The previous owners of the house had hidden a roof leak behind a false wall in the master bedroom and it had left 10+ years of catastrophic damage. They did a complete restoration of the original plaster along with installing insulation and new trim to match the original wood trim that is throughout the rest of the house. They did beautiful work and were very respectful of my home and my dog. I was so happy that I brought them back again to do some work in my kitchen. They ripped up some badly installed ceramic tile (also courtesy of the previous owners). Part of it covered some original hardwood that I was determined to preserve and against all odds they managed to pull up the tile leaving the hardwood largely unscathed. They installed a radiant heat system under a porcelain tile floor that has been delightful all winter long. Once again, they installed a beautiful trim which perfectly matches the original 1937 wood trim in the rest of the house. They also did a repair of yet more water damage in my kitchen ceiling (this time from a bathtub leak) as well as repairing the leaky bathtub and doing some other minor plumbing work. When I had a minor issue with the garbage disposal, they came back same day and fixed it immediately. Still happy, I brought them back a third time to install new radiator covers throughout the house. Again, just perfect. They share my appreciation for original features in the house but they also know how to strike a practical balance between restoration and replacement. They don't know it yet, but their next projects with me are some new basement stairs and a bathroom remodel. I can't wait to hire them again."
