"I'm so pleased I selected Bill Morin to perform my bathroom tile project. A dripping shower faucet (in a house built in the 1960s) had caused serious damage to the bathroom floor, to the point it was dangerous to walk on. The shower itself was showing its age, and once demolition began, Bill realized he literally had his work cut out for him, since the wood had badly rotted in several places. After suggesting I have a termite inspection (thankfully, that wasn't an issue), Bill continued tearing apart the shower and wall tile. He installed a new shower light, along with new sheet rock and floor trim. Bill meticulously laid and grouted the beautiful new tile on the shower walls, floor, curb and outer floor. He also replaced the shower valve and faucet, installed a new sub floor, and made helpful suggestions when I needed advice. When I asked for a couple of minor changes, he made them immediately, without demanding additional money. He arrived each day on time, and always made a point of cleaning up after a long day's work.Bill even corrected a couple of issues in other rooms, simply because he saw there was a problem and wanted to "make things right" (who does that?) Early on, I knew I was dealing with a true professional, who came to do a job, and do it well. Even when Bill encountered an unexpected obstacle, he took it in stride, and managed to joke and make me laugh during an understandably stressful time. Finally, when I realized there was a minor plumbing adjustment that needed to be made days after the job was completed, Bill drove more than an hour from his house to mine on a Saturday morning to address the matter. If you need a tile project performed, Bill is definitely the man to call."

FAQs for tile: ceramic and porcelain repair projects in Arab, AL

People use the terms refinishing, resurfacing, and reglazing interchangeably. Refinishing is a process that repairs old tiles and gives them a fresh new coat of finish. This is also called tile resurfacing or reglazing.

Yes, you can refinish tiles as a DIY project, but it’s important to follow all the steps involved. These include the following:

  1. Clean the tiles or hire a local tile cleaning service to remove all the residue (soap film, oil, grease, and dirt).

  2. Etch the tile to ensure the refinishing solution adheres properly.

  3. Fill in any cracks or chips in the tile.

  4. Recoat the grout.

  5. Repair any missing or damaged caulking where applicable.

  6. Apply the refinishing product, primer, and enamel.

Your newly reglazed tile should last between 10 and 15 years with proper installation. However, higher-traffic areas and moisture may result in a reduced life span. Explore the cost of different tile types to determine which material works best for your home and needs.

Your bathtub and tile refinishing cost will likely seem like a small price to pay for the transformation it offers. Provided your tile and grout are both intact, refinishing will bring a brand-new style at a fraction of the cost.

Yes, most ceramic tile is paintable with specific epoxy or tile paints. However, you’ll want to avoid areas of heavy use or moisture, such as countertops, showers, and bathtubs. Paint can crack, bubble, or wear away over time, especially on floors.
