"We hired him to build retaining walls and a patio under our deck. He did a great job, BUT it took him over a year to finish the job. We hired him in April of 2022 . He said he would start in a few weeks. He started work in Sept 2022.He finally finished the job in June of 2023, siting the weather and the lack of concrete and/or drivers because of Covid. I recommend him IF you are not in a hurry."

"There is not enough space here for me to tell you how happy I was to discover RMcK Excavating. Roger is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and the consummate professional. I originally hired him to rebuild a roadside culvert which was eroding dangerously close to my driveway. I was so impressed with the job he did that I hired him to build a retaining wall, install an underground propane tank, patio, walkway, lay down 7500 square foot of asphalt driveway, install perimeter drainage, repair a crack in my foundation, and custom design and build a firing range in my back yard. Roger is extremely skilled. He spent hours studying my project, brainstorming with me on how best to achieve my objectives, educating me about things like hydrostatic pressure, water flow and excavation that I didnâ t know, and helped me to make informed decisions. The finished product is outstanding and was completed at a fair price. If you need ANYTHING done that involves excavation/paving/concrete/drainage or hardscape RMcK would be my first...and only call!"

"My wife was thrilled with the results! What a transformation! We experienced excellent service. the team was professional on phone and in person. Even junior members of the team were polite and used clean language. They were also thoughtful, when considering the weather and what effect it would have on their work. Price was competitive among other contractors. They removed our awnings permanently -our request- at no extra cost. They also suggested replacing the front gutter, and charged only for materials. Overall we highly recommend and would hire them again for any future work."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Archbald, PA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
