In 2026 I had them come back to touch up the walkway (its on a slope and some stones had shifted a bit) and to replace the concrete stairs to the front door. Once again, terrific work and they always go above and beyond. Mottern's quality is top-notch and I highly recommend them to others."

"We hired XtraCare to rebuild a failing retaining wall along our driveway, repoint the masonry on another retaining wall, install a French drain behind the retaining wall that wasn’t rebuilt, and reconstruct a concrete walkway that had subsided over the years. We had requested quotes from several reputable contractors, and XtraCare submitted a very reasonable bid. While it was not the lowest one received, our initial meeting with Cleber convinced us that he had a much better sense of the myriad challenges posed by the project (e.g., difficult topography, drainage issues, potential permitting obstacles) than the other contractors did. The project manager, CJ, was always responsive and let us know what to expect at every stage of the project. The crew was unfailingly friendly and diligent and even completed some work that was outside the scope of the project (repointing some crumbling mortar on the porch adjacent to the new retaining wall they built). We are extremely pleased with the results! Even the building inspector complemented us on the excellent craftsmanship. And two weeks after they completed the job, the crew returned to clean and inspect the wall one more time. "CM replaced 70 linear fee of my block retaining wall that was in serious disrepair from previous owners here in South Arlington (wall built circa 1961). CM was able to start work right away.  CM and I agreed beforehand that I would have the stumps removed by my tree contractor, but that contractor wasn't able to get his machine right up to the stump because of how it was situated on the slope.  Although removing the stump was not included in my contract with CM, they were able to get them removed anyway so that they could do their retaining wall work.  And they didn't charge me any extra for this! Plus, since I was cited by Arlington County for the disrepair of my existing wall, I needed for the new wall to be less than 24" (to avoid a permit). When CM was building the wall, there were a few spots that were going over a bit.  I raised this concern with CM and they were extremely attentive to my concerns and remedied the situation right away.  CM started only 2 business days after I signed the contract, which was great.  They cleaned up well, were very careful of my neighbor's property (which was very close to my project), and completed the project within the estimated time frame.  But more than anything, my experience with them showed that I could trust them with getting it done right and addressing my concerns - they really seem to know that well. Also, their pricing was very competitive compared to the four other quotes I received.
