"We had a new heating A/C unit installed by the Darville Co last week. Ann Darville helped us choose the right unit for our house and our budget. She made an appointment that worked with our schedules. The 2 men who did the actual install, Israel and Vince, were great. They were on time, very professional, answered all our questions, were nice to my dogs, and even cleaned up after themselves. The new unit fit in the old space but wouldn't fit through the existing door frame. Darville made all the arrangements to make sure a new door and frame were properly installed and painted. Everything was perfect and we highly recommend The Darville Company."

"I needed to have a bath tub resurfaced, and based on reviews I decided to go with Miracle Method. Before committing to the job I visited their show room, which was located in a building on a U Haul site and I had to call to get someone to unlock a gate to let me drive in. The woman working in the office/showroom was very friendly and knowledgeable, but the office and showroom was crowded and shabby and I was concerned that this may reflect on the quality of the service as well. Despite my concerns I went ahead and scheduled someone to come out and give me an estimate. I was given an estimate of $495 and decided to go ahead with the job, a decision for which I have no regrets. Every single person that I dealt with was friendly, polite, knowledgeable and professional. Everyone was punctual and showed up on time, once they were early, but called ahead to make sure that it was OK to show up early. From the conversation that I could hear between the men who were working on my tub, I could tell that they were paying attention to detail and took pride in doing a good job. Floors were covered with drop cloths and walls were covered in plastic. Fumes were vented outside (no windows in this bathroom) but there was still a strong odor that took over a day to clear out, the one downside to this process. There were no surprise added costs and the final bill was exactly the $495 that I was quoted. The whole process, from the show room visit to the finished product was less than 2 weeks. Only time will tell as to how durable the finish really is, but right now my bathtub looks as good as new and I would not hesitate to recommend this company. The woman in the showroom said that the owners were looking for a larger facility for their business and I hope that it reflects the quality of their service!"

"We had an appointment scheduled with another plumber at 6pm at a new house we had purchased in Commerce. I got a call from that plumber at 4pm saying they could not make it because they were caught at another job and did not know when they would finish. We are still living in Dallas and had to move schedules and drive an hour to get here to meet the plumber. <br /> I went to Angie's list and found Doug Powers with Powers Plumbing. I explained my situation and he told me he could be at the location within an hour. He was right on time. <br /> I explained what I needed done, and he proceeded to get right to work and got our new sink, faucet, and disposal installed in just a little over an hour. He then fixed a leaking water line, that we had to have fixed prior to a new refrigerator being installed the next day. He had to make a quick run to get a part and fixed the problem exactly the way we wanted. <br /> They were extremely professional, and did an excellent job on all that they did. They cleaned up after themselves and everything has worked exactly the way we wanted and expected. The best part was the cost was not near what I expected based on my experiences with other plumbers. It was very fair and reasonable. I felt I got great value for what I paid. <br /> I will use Powers again and highly recommend them. Their responsiveness and the quality of their work was a breath of fresh air in the plumbing profession. <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Athens, TX

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
