"Terrible. The fence was put up in early October, and as best as I can tell looks very nice. The swing gate was supposed to close against my garage but was installed in such a way that the gate only met the garage at the very top of the gate. The gap between the garage and the lower portion of the gate is wide enough for anyone to reach around and unlatch the gate from the other side. This is partly due to the fact that my garage is not completely level along the side that meets the gate, but I think that this should have been noticed by the installers when they planted the posts for the fence and gate. The installers came back (Oct 12) but could offer no solution other than to attach a piece of wood to the gate to close the gap. That was not acceptable in my opinion for a new gate. It took over a month(Nov 16) and 2 more phone calls before Rolen Bros even sent out someone to address my concerns and look at the gate. The person from Roland Bros was very pleasant and seemed to understand my concerns. We reached a compromise that I was satisfied with and he told me that they would be able to fix the gate very soon, weather permitting. However even though there was decent weather in mid to late December no one showed up and nobody from Rolen Bros ever called with any type of update. I finally called them again yesterday(12/27) after receiving an invoice in the mail, and was told that they would be coming today( 12/28). I sat home all day and again no one showed up or called. Rolen Bros does not return calls as promised and twice have not shown up on the day they said they would, without calling to let me know. Update: after no contact from Rolen Bros on Monday (12/31) or this morning (1/2/19) someone showed up while I was out shopping and attached an extra slat of wood to the back of the gate. However it is a different color wood than the swing gate. While the gate is now safe from entry from the back side, it looks awful considering it is a new gate . It is almost as if this company prefers/hopes that the homeowner not be at home while they work. I am sending them the final payment, just happy to be done with this disreputable company."

"Ross did an excellent job. He expertly followed the specifications/drawings made by the structural engineer. He was reliable, straightforward, honest and professional. I would gladly recommend him; I will use him for my future welding needs."

"There are plenty of competent contractors, Hook Home Maintenance is not one of them. When I hired Hook Home Maintenance they told me the project would take three weeks at a cost of $41.5 k. It took 13 weeks (with Lindsay telling me “2 more weeks” starting at week six), and the final bill was $75.9 k (YES, that is an increase of 83%). The majority of the overage being unexplained labor -materials were over by $7.1 k, labor was over by $27.3 k. The project was not only grossly underestimated, but the additional 10 weeks cost listing the house during a seller’s market that was busiest when the house was supposed to be complete. Since completion was in mid-May instead of the beginning of March, additional funds were necessary to paint the outside of the house, which was never part of the original project (No, I did not have Hook paint the outside). Hook’s incompetency cost me addition money in many areas. Upon inspection of Hook’s work… • The kitchen rendering that was provided did not match what was installed • There was damage to the kitchen cabinets when they were installed • The new toilet in the upstairs bath was not functioning • Shelves were missing from the kitchen pantry and laundry room and were not in the house • Pre-painted trim was cut and raw wood was left exposed • Prep work prior to painting (filling holes and dents) was not done and there was paint on the new hardwood floors, the fireplace stone, etc. (Ironically, the estimate to paint was the only cost that Randy advised me was over budget and after asking how much it was going to be over, I never received a revised estimate, just an invoice.) • The wood counter tops in the kitchen were a different wood than the laundry room counter tops • I was charged for six (6) hours of cleaning that was done two weeks prior to Hook completing the project. Additional funds were used for a final cleaning. Overages and expenditures as the project was under way were not conveyed and when specifically asked about costs and time lines, updated cost estimates were not provided and updated time estimates were inaccurate. The amount of money allocated for this project was clearly communicated at the beginning of the project and Shawn assured that he thought there would be savings in some of the discounts provided by Lowes for materials. An opportunity to control costs was not provided as Hook Home Maintenance continued to send invoices with unexplained labor costs. The majority of Hook’s work was acceptable, but not worth the overage in cost, time and aggravation. There are plenty of competent contractors out there. Hook Home Maintenance is not one of them."

"John and crew repaired 20ft of my fencing and two gates, he did a great job and sent me photos and progress reports throughout the job. Would definitely use them again if I have any repairs needed to my fence. Very knowledgeable!"
