"If you want to sell your house—STAGE IT! We had a very nice realtor and followed her suggestions to repair our deck, do touch up painting, take down the family photos, and de-clutter our house. I refused to repaint the beautiful family room my wife and I had painted—one wall a gorgeous purple and another a bright yellow. Then we put our house up for sale. In the three months the house was listed we had one couple look at it. Four months later we let our new realtor have control. She hired a stager (the wonderful Margaret) to take over. We had hundreds of views on line, nearly 100 saves and two offers, one was $16,000 above our asking price! 10 days after it went on line we were selling our house. So, as much as you love your house and all those wonderful things you figured out to make it perfect. Just let it all go! Have Margaret come out, look at your house, and tell you what you need to do to sell it. She is very non-threatening as she tells you what will allow a prospective buyer to see themselves in your house and make it theirs. It will no longer be your house. It will be the new owners’ house. Heck, we can always paint a room in our next house purple and yellow if we want. Or maybe just light gray..."
