"The floor installer arrived and finished as per agreement. The installer knows what he's doing and with the help of his wife I got the look I was after. There was a shortage of two transition pieces that go in the doorways. The first time the factory sent the wrong color so the pieces had to be re-ordered. From the date of installation to the signing off of the project was about seven weeks. Patrick was right on it as soon as he was made aware there was a problem so I never got upset as the missing pieces were just two doorway transitions pieces. The main installation took two days which was most satisfactory."

"I had originally gotten an estimate from HomeDepot-- $5000+ !!! I flat could not afford this. It was SO much beyond what I thought it was going to be that I almost just gave up and left the bare concrete with a throw rug over the top. But I thought just to be sure, I should get another estimate. I stopped by Carpetco more or less by accident (Lucky me!). <br /> The installer from Carpetco came out and did the measurements without a charge-- out of the box, this made me happy, since HomeDepot charged $50-- and THEN would not even give me a copy of the measurements!! <br /> Well, their estimate came in at $2823.46! And this was with a slightly better quality of flooring than HomeDepot-- I was so excited that I could afford it! This was actually not much more than the $2500 that I'd thought it would cost--the higher amount was due to the odd shape of the room, with a lot of material waste. Very happy, I signed up! <br /> My first choice of vinyl was on backorder. I got a phone call with an estimated arrival date. I had actually waffled back and forth between two patterns-- I asked about the second pattern. It was in stock and the installation was scheduled. <br /> Don't have much to say about it other than-- WOW, the room looks fabulous! Ken Brown and brother Don showed up as scheduled, worked diligently, and next thing I know, I had a new floor. All too often, I pay for work to be done, only to have the thought later that--yeah, they got it done, and it was ok, but... *i* would have done a better job. <br /> Not so in this case-- I feel very good about the money spent on labor. I couldn't have done as good a job myself. Thanks, guys! <br />"

"Seven years previous I had to rip out two layers of vinyl flooring and the particle board substrate in the kitchen and laundry rooms of my home due to infusion with mold, leaving me down to the tongue and groove subfloor, which I cleaned, colored and waxed to seal.  I stuffed every blessed groove between the boards with sisal (glued in with wood glue), waxed those in also, and eventually used nearly a pound of deck screws to tighten the boards to the floor joists removing all squeaks. Last spring I began to replace the floor.  Theresa at Cover Works troubleshot the project for me, helping me select a flooring which was green, no VOC's, would withstand kitty hijinks, be easy to clean, and look great.  She was wonderfully patient.  I lined up another contractor to install the vapor barrier and A/C fir plywood substrate, as he was to also cut and fit the base but  not install it, so I could primer and paint it before the floating flooring was installed, then follow along and install it against the walls.  This turned out to be a bad choice as that contractor did a terrible job with the substrate and didn't do the base at all.  Cover Works were very good to tell me how the substrate would need to be fixed before the flooring could be installed:  considerable work on my part and theirs.  This necessitated a change of contract form for scheduling and increased costs.  They were extremely busy that time of year, but pulled rabbits out of hats to make this all work.  Kyle, their installer, did a fantastic job of bringing a disastrous substrate job up to the point we could make it work with the vinyl tile flooring I'd chosen if we also installed an underlayment pad beneath, which they'd said would be necessary to help since floating the floor with the concrete mix to smooth out the terrible substrate -- the bad contractor used C/D full of blows, checks, knots and cracks -- was impossible to completely smooth.  Kyle installed the tiles perfectly.  I've seen this type of installation suggested as DIY:  ha.  He used pry bars and mallets to fit every seam absolutely tightly.  Every seam is perfect.  They are actually more water tight than tiles set in adhesive would be.  The floor is now smooth, quiet, solid and beautiful.  If anyone is interested, the flooring is Moduleo vinyl tile with a 30 year warranty.  It comes in a wide variety of styles.  I could not be more pleased.  Everyone was patient, kind, professional -- and after final payment they sent me a thank-you note! <br />"

Emergency services offered

"It was an emergency response to a broken pipe and flooding in our house and they were exceptional, very, very professional in every way they took the job and we literally had to do nothing other than give them the keys and they were totally in charge of responding to our emergency, that is a great job. What stood out about them was their overall professionalism, the obvious presence of well understood systems that their staff understood and followed and it was fairly amazing how clever they understood what they needed to do and just did it."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Baker City, OR

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
