"I was very apprehensive about having an inspection done on my home... Oh what will I have to repair in order to sell... Rob was very thorough, he did find many items that needed attention, however, he had suggestions and recommendations, which helped me tremendously! I would definitely recommend his company."

"We had St. Louis Radon install a system. They were great to work with. We were able to schedule a convenient time within two weeks. They showed up on time, were very professional and efficient. They were here for about an hour and a half. They cleaned up thoroughly. They provided good information in answer to our questions. They then left a radon detection device to check the level after the installation."

"From the first contact, you know you are dealing with a professional.  Courteous and very knowledgeable, Bill addressed all the questions I had and some I hadn't thought of!  He arrived on time and was well prepared to conduct a quality inspection.  He took pains to simply explain all of the details in his walk thru, what he was looking for, what he found and what the implications were.  The final written report arrived as promised even thought it was over the weekend. Based on the discussion, I opted to obtain a mold test which I hadn't initially considered.  Although this test cost more than the inspection itself,  it revealed a very significant problem with the unit I was considering. Strongly recommended! <br />"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Ballwin, MO

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
