"Needed gutters replaced. Lenny gave me an estimate and did the job a couple of days later. The job was done well and the cost was far below another estimate. He strikes me as being hard working, conscientious and fair."

"Premier Investments did a fantastic job finishing our lower level! There strong attention to detail is evident by the quality of their work. They did crow's foot texture on the ceiling, rounded corners on the drywall, and created beautiful custom built-in shelving with arches that created a contemporary yet upscale look. The were even able to match our existing millwork perfectly which provides a seamless transition between the upper and lower levels of our home. Not only did Aaron and Don deliver exceptional quality, but they were also punctual, friendly, and professional. Their professionalism and friendly demeanor really stood out when I made changes to the plan halfway through the project. They graciously accommodated my requests, even though it meant more work for them. The project was completed within the time frame specified and right on budget. I will definitely call Premier Investments for all of our future home improvement needs. They provide outstanding quality at a competitive price!"

"To Expert House Movers
We wanted to let you know just how pleased we are with the work you did on our house. Before we contacted you, we had several other contractors look at our home. We actually had hired another contractor, who took such a long time, never returned our calls, missed meetings, and took months to even get us our bid. And when that contractor did get us our bid, it was more than doubled our previously discussed budget!
That is when we called you, you came out immediately, was extremely professional, but more importantly, you had a personal interaction with both me and my wife throughout the entire process. You answered all our phone calls, all of our questions, and talked with us throughout the entire process. We felt extremely confident and assured through the entire lift. This house is our dream house and we are going to live in it until we die, and you knew how much it meant to us, and you took care of it as if it were your own.
As you know, my wife ended up in the hospital with some complications with her surgery while you were working on our home, and you took such great care of our house. You knew she was very disappointed that she could not be there, as she designed the foundation window placements and had a big part in the doors and steps. Your crew was so kind and so professional and meticulous, that they knew that two particular windows were very important to my wife. Your crew wanted to get them perfect and asked me some questions about them, that I could not answer. My wife was feeling better, but still in the hospital, and I called her on the phone, while your crew waited for me, as she and I discussed for several minutes the exact placement of the windows. Some minor changes had to be made and your crew could have easily just slapped the two windows in the new location, which was only slightly off of the original plan, and be done with it, but they stopped and pointed out where my wife originally wanted them and the new location difference and wanted to be sure that my wife understood the change, and wanted me to talk to my wife first. I was so very impressed that they made the adjustments on the spot that my wife suggested over the phone. I don’t think any other company would have gone through this much trouble to please their customers!
You also were very respectful of our property, neighbors, and your crew were always very willing to stop and explain the process of what was going to happen next. Not one time did we ever feel like we were in your way. Actually, it was the opposite, we felt like you and your crew were very excited to show us your equipment and how it worked and actually wanted us around so we could see how it all worked and so we could see for ourselves how everything was perfect - and it was!
We will always remember you and think of you so highly. Thank you for making the beginning our home building so easy and off to such a perfect start. There are so many things that can go wrong when redoing a home, and having it go off with such a perfect start gives us such great hope. You have certainly set bar very high for the other contractors that will be coming in for the other parts of the home! Your company and its crew should be very proud of its work. You do a job that is very difficult, complex and tedious, but you do it with care, expertise, and perfection. We actually miss you guys and wish you were around. You are like family to us. We only wish we could rate your service and staff A++ , if there were such a rating.
All our best and blessings,
Randy and Elizabeth
"

"I stressed that I wanted the new deck constructed exactly like the old one, 4 posts, 3 railings, no trim above the level of the deck or steps for snow removal.
The new structure has one extra post , and side trim that extends above the level of the steps, making snow removal difficult; the snow cannot be swept off the steps because the side trim is in the way. Every time it snowed I had to remove the snow instead of sweeping it off, sometimes digging it out by hand with a small spatula.
I will remove this trim next winter because he used the trim to mask uneven board lengths where the verfticals end.
He also misjudged the amount of materials needed by $800 which resulted in a slight delay and extra cost.
The finished project is very well constructed and adds to the appearance of the house, BUT the side trim creates a difficult to clean abutment making it difficult to remove snow and debris.
I lent his crew a shop broom and they took it with them by mistake. To date they have not returned it even though I have left nemerous messages. I will consider this a donation to the work he does for charities.
Ovarall I feel that another contractor would have litened to my requests and undertood why the tril was not needed.

"

"I called Hometown Remodelling about repairing two walls in a room where wallpaper removal had damaged the drywall. Spoke with John Heansel. He came over and provided my wife an estimate for scraping the drywall, applying two skim coats and putting an orange-peel texture on the walls. He was very prompt and courteous.
He estimated the start date to be 3-4 weeks out. After 3 weeks, I called and he said that it would be another 3 weeks or so. After 6 weeks, I called and he said he would begin work on Tuesday and would call on Monday to confirm. He did not call on Monday, so I called to let him know that we needed notification to arrange time off from work to let his crew in. He said that they would start at 8:00 am on Wednesday.
John & his crew did arrive on Wednesday. They wore foot coverings or took off their boots in the house. I asked about how long the job would take and John said that they would be done in one day. At the end of the day, John said that the mud was not drying as fast as expected so they would need to finish on Thursday. There was a bit of mud and dust through the house when they left, but for the most part they cleaned up well.
John & his crew arrived on Thursday morning. Unlike the day before, they paid little attention to keeping the house clean. They mixed mud in the front yard and carried it into the house while wearing boots. About mid-morning I mentioned to John that I was getting concerned about the mess, especially on the rugs and carpet which we had just had professionally cleaned. He said that they would do a good clean up.
When the work was done they cleaned up and left. John told me that his assistant wasbringing some carpet cleaner and that his crew would clean up, and then he left. His crew finished cleaning and then they left. I had showed John some specific areas of dust and mud to be cleaned, but those areas were not done.
I understand that remodeling work can be messy and time-consuming, and that smaller residential jobs may not be their favorites, but I expect professional work from professionals that I hire. While John and his crew worked hard and were courteous, I think that they could have done better. Specifically:
better communication
- I needed to know when the job would start and how long it would take, but had to call and leave
messages to ask for this information.
better work
- we had agreed that the texturing would be orange-peel. Since the other walls in the room (not needing repair) had a light
orange-peel texture, I assumed that the repaired wall would be the same. Instead, a heavy texture was applied that
overlapped the lighter texture by about a foot. [why not make the transition at a wall edge?]
- the electrical outlets were not completely taped off; I had to chip away the texturing to remount the wall plates.
better cleanup
- some overspray and mud marks had to be cleaned up after they left, even though I had pointed them out.
- some chunks of drywall mud left in the yard.
- they dumped their mud pail in the park across the street. [which was cleaned up after I called to complain]
Summary:
I think that Mr. Heansel seems to be a nice guy that wants to do well for his customers. Had he shown better communication and more attention to detail, I would have given him a much better rating.
"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Baltic, SD

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
