"Not only was Juan knowledgeable, friendly, patient and professional, his work was outstanding. He not only addressed every special request to fit our needs, but did so with exceptional quality and made sure I was included and happy with every facet of our installation. "The finished cabinet is beautiful! It takes wasted space and makes it useful as well as attractive. It really enhances my living room. J&D came out to measure and got me a drawing and estimate promptly. I liked the fact that they used plywood, not MDF, for the sides and genuine wood for the doors. After I selected them to do the work they took time to make sure we were on the same page for the design, even stopping by an additional time with a door sample to make sure it was going to turn out the way I wanted. I wanted the cabinet painted, not stained, and their painters did a fantastic job. Everyone working in my house took a lot of care to make sure the house was clean when they left and the furniture was back in the right spot."

"P Absolutely perfect work done. Wilfredo and I communicated for a few days to figure out what the best specifications were for the outdoor iguana enclosure and came to a decision. His work is impeccable and he built me a zoo quality habitat based solely off of some photos I sent him. Absolutely recommend him for your carpentry needs. I will definitely reach out in the future!"

"We are getting ready to sell our house and had several items on our list. They were all done efficiently and quite satisfactorily (attic ladder, gutter downspout replacement, rotten wood, and patio cover repair). The patio cover required disassembling the metal structure, extracting damaged polycarbonate skylight panels, and replacement. Victor knew exactly how to do it and, although finding the replacement panels required more than a simple visit to the local Home Depot, Victor managed to locate the exact material and our patio cover is beautiful and light-filled again. We appreciated his work ethic so much (showed up when he said he would, worked all day, cleaned up afterwards), we added another task to wash the siding and bricks on the house and garage. I can't say enough about how pleased I am with the work he provided. You cannot go wrong hiring this pro."

"Gerald Delgado and his team helped patch areas of my old wood floor where water damage had occurred. Despite the fact that my home is over a 100 years old and the wood floors are almost as old, the patch work looked well integrated and completely disguised the fact that damage had ever occurred there."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Baytown, TX

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
