We ended up using a mid-grade composite decking with hidden fasteners and metal in wood frame for the exterior railing. It will likely outlast the home itself it is so solid, and it is the perfect size in comparison with the home and with everything complying to our exacting local code. I have gotten so many compliments from everyone who has come over, including the inspector required by my insurance, and my neighbors are thrilled with the new view. In addition to the deck work, he has replaced our outside siding with concrete board as well as completely redoing the inside chimney, fixing plumbing issues as well as electrical work. Everyone he subcontracted with did exemplary work and I trust him implicitly. He completed the work within our budget.
