"I was very happy. JW came in and diagnosed the problem, then sent workers out to fix the brickwork. They also did an amazing job with the plaster inside. They even came back to do some additional fixes to make sure that no water would get in. They also rebuilt a wooden trellis that was slowly rotting, so they did a large amount of work."

"The experience went very well. Mr. Mendez was both professional and courteous. I cannot say enough for his employee Jose who painted the front of the house. Jose was courteous, or his mask, and showed a lot of experience using the spray painter. He did not leave any mess Honda House or any Trash in the yard. I would hire this company again"

"I contacted Art Woodstone Studio about making a custom bench with drawers for my den. George and Tea, the owners, came to my townhouse to discuss the project. We discussed the dimensions, design, and they gave an estimate. I had contact with them during the period they were making the bench and we would discuss any needed clarifications. They are very easy to work with. Six weeks later they delivered my bench. The bench is beautiful and I’m well satisfied. I highly recommend Art Woodstone Studio. Their prices are reasonable for the quality of work."

"Interviewed several local to Old Town remodeling companies. They were by far the best value for my project. The in-house interior design team helped me pick out all materials. Matt Galassi was the project manager and facilitated the designs to perfection. I've recommended them to numerous other condo owners in the building."

"We should probably call our house design and remodel by Mason as he has executed so many wonderful projects for us. The latest was a complete remodel of our hall bathroom and the building of a storage closet/ window seat in an upstairs bedroom. As is his style, both projects were executed flawlessly and the results were stunning. He is meticulous about everything and it shows in the results. Along the way, we ask him questions and he solves other problems in our old house. He is just a gem to work with."

"After our last contractor abandoned us midway through our project, Haris Aguilar completed it quickly and efficiently, and on schedule. He is incredibly professional, his craftsmanship is impeccable, the space was cleaned everyday before they left, and the work was finished beautifully. I recommend them highly, and plan on using them for all my future projects"

"All work done professionally and in a timely manner. Project started with a thorough powerwashing of existing deck, rails, supports. Badly warped and/or splintered decking and rail top replaced with new, pressure-treated lumber. Old wood power-sanded then hand- painted with clear stain finish. Attention to detail was excellent; perfection is the standard of this company."

FAQs for arbor, pergola or trellis custom build projects in Washington, DC

Pergolas and gazebos are both outdoor structures, but there are differences between the two. A pergola has a slatted roof that allows partial sunlight to filter through, creating a light and airy space. In contrast, a gazebo features a solid roof that provides complete shade. This key difference influences the comfort and visual appeal of your outdoor space.

Prefabricated pergola kits require one to four hours of assembly, while custom pergola designs take an average of eight to 16 hours. Additional groundwork, such as pouring a concrete slab, leveling the site, and removing obstructions, may extend the installation process to several weeks, ensuring a secure and long-lasting build.

A standard pergola kit ships with everything you need—four support posts, rafters, top runners, support beams, and hardware for anchoring the frame to a concrete pad. Many manufacturers also bundle add-ons like retractable canopies, privacy screens, or modular sections that let you tweak the footprint. Because each part is pre-cut and labeled, the kit helps you—or your contractor—assemble a sturdy, attractive structure without extra trips to the hardware store.
