"We requested a bid for installation of recessed kitchen lighting. What we got was an estimate for the cost of rewiring the knob-and-tube in our entire house, plus the cost of the fixtures. The rewiring alone was estimated over $18,000. Our home inspector informed us about knob-and-tube when we moved in, as well as the excellent condition of the wiring. Adding LED fixtures would have been a low draw on the system and we have since gotten a far better bid from another electrician. Our impression was that we were given a hard sell to spend almost $20,000 on a big project we did not ask for. There was no alternative solution offered. Additionally, the price quoted for the fixtures was very higher, higher than any I could find on a basic Internet search for the same fixtures, so big price gouging there on the materials. I am confident that these are skilled electricians, but as a homeowner and consumer, I felt that we were not heard and that the company, as represented by the initial contact with the lead electrician who seems to primarily be a salesman, is interested only in big-ticket jobs. If you need a big commercial project done, you may find Seatown to be your best choice. As a homeowner, I felt like the company's next prospective sale. We won't hire this company."

"George Suba has remodeled 2 of our bathrooms and I highly recommend him for the quality of his work and his professional work ethic. He arrives whe he says he will, has exceptional skills, never misses a day, keeps the work area spotless, and ensures you are completely satisfied with the finished project. GS Tile and Restoration has restored my faith in contractors. I am already planning the renovation of our next bathroom and would not consider hiring anyone else."

"After finding we needed a new tank and receiving a fairly high quote from a larger Seattle area company, I’m very thankful we got a second quote from NW Bathworks. Jason phoned and messaged within an hour of submitting the request on Angi. He was able to quote over the phone and performed the work the next morning. Other companies were either booking a week out or charging “emergency” rates to do it immediately. Being an older home, we needed an updated gas line connection, updated pressure regulator from the street, a new tank with updated venting, and a new outdoor faucet. All was completed in 2 hours and the work was flawless. Jason and Greg were reasonably priced, very experienced, and clean. We have recommended them to our local parent groups and will definitely call them again for any plumbing needs."

"Pure Home Remodeling just finished our remodeling project for our master bathroom including the master bedroom plus few other tasks at our house which part of them were the installation of new back splash and counter tops in the kitchen. Moses and his team were professional the whole time of the work. During our first meeting with Moses, he explained to us how his approach to supervising the remodeling project and that his main interest is to ensure that they do the remodeling project before preparing the legal documents for us to sign. From that moment, our experience with them was excellent including the company designer. We love the results of the remodeling that they did for us and it's a huge add-on to our house. Pure Home Remodeling is an excellent home improvement for anyone who needs a quality remodeling and outstanding client service..."

"The job went excellent. Shay repaired about 100 lineal feet of fencing that had blown down. He placed new posts in new concrete. Did all new framing and even got me a great deal on the fence boards from a local supplier rather than paying over double at the big box stores. He really cares about doing a great job and is meticulous and makes sure everything is done right instead of trying to rush through it. I woukd absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for work done around their home or property. I'll be hiring him to rebuild my deck this spring as well!"

"We called Sears to report that the ice-maker on our Kenmore refrigerator was not working. They said they could send someone, but that the person would come after hours, which meant a higher fee. We told them we didn't mind, and that they could go ahead and schedule. By the end of the afternoon, a repairman arrived as scheduled, introduced himself and confirmed that we had requested service for our fridge. He also explained the cost of his visit would be a certain amount b/c of the late time of day and told us the parts would cost additional $$. We agreed to the terms. He looked at the refrigerator and tried to use the ice-maker and determined then that the motor was burned out. He even showed us how and where the motor was burned out. He got a replacement part from his van, installed it, and tested it. The ice-maker worked fine. When he confirmed we were satisfied w/the service, we paid our fee. He left a business card for us to contact him should we have any more trouble. The whole thing took about 25 min."

"Jason managed a large remodel at our house, including new floors, cabinets, kitchen, bathrooms, tile, fireplace, and doors. We found Jason to be knowledgeable, honest, hard-working, and pleasant to deal with. With a large project like this we were bound to run into some unexpected problems, and Jason was always willing to do whatever it took to resolve these to our satisfaction. We are extremely pleased with the final outcome and would highly recommend Jason for any remodeling or constuction project.

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Bellingham, WA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
