"They did a great job! They even found other issues from the shawdy installment of the electrical work and not only fixed it but cleaned up the other company's mess! They followed city code and did it all very quickly. Their pricing is very reasonable, they're professional and courteous. We'll be in touch again for future electrical work!"

"Jack and his crew did a great job with the work we needed done which ended up being more complicated than we had anticipated. He charged by the job rather than the hour, which worked out well for us since his crew had to pull half the wires out of the electrical box to figure out what previous electricians had done in our condo. Jack and his crew were honest and efficient and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again."

"We found a day or so later it wasn't working - we called the hot tub guys and insisted that they come out and show us what was wrong. They stated again it was wired wrong the ground wasn't hooked up and the neutral wires weren't connected. At this point we had it - the hot tub guys said it was the electrician the electrician said it was the hot tub. We called for a second opinion Select Electric - they came out and looked at everything - they rewired the hot tub to the specifications and connected the ground wire to the hot tub and connected the white neutral wires. He stated that the 20 amp circuit breaker needs to be replaced. We then paid Select Electrical $135.00 for their second opinion we asked if he could do it and he stated yes but it would be expensive. He said call the other electrician - Custom Power Electric to replace the circuit breaker. Customer Power Electric texted me and said they were coming out to see what he can do - I asked if he was going to replace the breaker as suggested he said if need be it's very expensive - I said the other electrician said that he could take it back to where he bought it and they will replace it. He said he would replace it if need be. I then said that I want it replaced. He then texted me that it was replaced and working. We used the hot tub on Tuesday and it was great. I went to check it yesterday and it's not working again the 20 amp circuit breaker had been tripped again. I didn't call Custom Power Electric yesterday to let him know. We've had this hot tub since 9/22 and only used it once and now can't use it. My husband and I both work and frankly don't have the time to keep dealing with this. My husband looked at the breaker and it looked like the original one - the scratches were in the same place. I would like to be reimbursed for what it would cost another electrician to replace the 20 amp circuit breaker and then have the electrician from Select Electric to come out and do the work."

"He did a fantastic job of explaining every bit of the project, why they use certain cables and piping for the electrical jobs. Very fast, through and great work. Would definitely recommend them to others for home EV installations"

"I initially selected two companies on Angi.com to provide a quote for the electrical wiring needed and never heard from either company. Luckily, when I went back to Angi.com and selected SS&E to provide a quote, Gary contacted me and we discussed my project and I immediately knew that his company was right for the job. After an in-home consultation with Gary a week ago, Gary and Jeff came out and did exactly what Gary stated that they were going to do and the process couldn't have went any smoother. Both gentlemen were courteous and they communicated very well when they needed my feedback, otherwise, they performed their duties to my full satisfaction. I will absolutely be hiring SS&E again for another project or two in the near future. Kind Regards, Deon"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Bensenville, IL

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
